  • 1. Misconception of biologystudentregardingphotosynthesis…

  • Photosynthesis in plants
  • 6. Concept in biology
    • Photosynthesis is the process where it will convertslight energy into the chemical energy of sugars and other organic compounds
    • 7. Site where it happen is on the chlorophyll pigment.
    • 8. require carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) and store chemical energy in the form of sugar
    • 9.  Oxygen (O2) is a byproduct of photosynthesis and is released into the atmosphere
  • Equation :
    6 CO2 + 6 H2O -> 6(CH2O) + 6 O2 sugar
  • 10. Techniques used in determining the misconception of students
    Group discussion
Drawings with Misconceptions (POE): These types of drawings showed some degree of understandings on photosynthesis and respiration concepts but also demonstrated some misconception but however, these drawings were misconceptions not understandings held by scientists or stated in science texts.
  • 11.
  • 12. Comprehensive representation Drawings:
    • Drawings in this category were the most competent and realistic drawings of the photosynthesis and respiration in plants.
    • 13. Drawings showing sound understanding, contained seven or more elements of the validated response for that particular statement
  • 14. Alternative concepts
    • Highlight on certain components only.
    • 15. Do not include chlorophyll pigment
    • 16. Thought that photosynthesis is the process where gaseous exchange is occur
    • 17. Take place mainly in the leaves
    • 18. The leaves’ main job is to give off oxygen
    • 19. The leaves’ main job is to give off carbon dioxide.
  • Misconception
    • they focus on the fact that the photosynthesis occurs only in the leaves and they don’t say anything about the chlorophyll. It is possible to see this misconception in the drawings
  • Misconception
    • The other misconception is they thought the Photosynthesis occur with the rise of the rains to the sky and after evaporation, their return to the ground
  • THANK YOU………..
