The consequences of choosing a mate are lifelong - and affect our eternal destiny.

Except the LORD build the house, & nations God sustains homesthey labour intrust that build it: who vain in Himexcept the LORD keep the city,the watchman waketh but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late,to eat the bread of sorrows:for so he giveth his beloved sleep. 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:they shall not be ashamed,but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. 4

Render mutual love & service 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands,as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife,even as Christ is the head of the church:and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ,so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 13

Render mutual love & service 25 Husbands, love your wives,even as Christ also loved the church,and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse itwith the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a gloriouschurch, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing;but that it should be holy and without blemish. 14

  • 18.  Help of parents trusting God 5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventurethe woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land:must I needs bring thy son again unto the landfrom whence thou camest? 6 And Abraham said unto him,Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again. 7 The LORD God of heaven,which took me from my fathers house,and from the land of my kindred,and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying,Unto thy seed will I give this land;he shall send his angel before thee,and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence. 19
  • 19.  Help of parents trusting God 8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee,then thou shalt be clear from this my oath:only bring not my son thither again. 9 And the servant put his hand under the thighof Abraham his master,and sware to him concerning that matter. 20

Blessed be the LORD God 27 And he said, of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my masters brethren. 56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master. 22

Our Role in Finding the Right Mate A. 1st Priority: Live by Faith In God Live by faith in Christ in all things 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:and the life which I now live in the fleshI live by the faith of the Son of God,who loved me, and gave himself for me. 24

  • 28.  Behold the fowls Hethe air: for birds & 26 of caresfor they sow not, neither do they reap, flowers, how much more for us!nor gather into barns;yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thoughtcan add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment?Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomonin all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of thefield, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven,shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29

Prepare for Practical Duties Man: provide spiritual leadership & daily needs  Diligent & provident like the ant 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. 41

Prepare for Practical Duties Woman: focus on spiritual & daily needs of family  Wise, kind, diligent worker 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 42
  • 42. III. Our Decision Has Lifelong Consequences A. If the Lord Builds the House: We Listen to Him Mutual loving service & blessings 7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 43
  • 43. III. Our Decision Has Lifelong Consequences B. If We Build Without God, We Sorrow & Suffer Like toothache & broken bone 19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint. 44
