Heather Todd Introduction

 1. 1. Heather Todd Experience to help you reach your goals
 2. 2. An Overview

My education, work and volunteer experiences have given me the opportunity to develop many skills, including:

Communications

Marketing

Event Planning

Project Management

Volunteer Management

Business Development & Networking

Public Speaking

International Experience

 3. 3. Communications

I have experience with multiple communication tools, and have used them effectively to further company goals and objectives.

Written communication, including: brochures, newsletters, direct mail, web development

Community relations: use diverse communication tools to keep in touch with supporters, thus developing relationships and driving volunteer hours and donations

Media Relations: work with media to promote events, drive donations, and share mission; supports organizational goals

Networking: develop relationships with professionals, consumers and the general public to generate opportunities

Keeping in Touch : Communication is used to attract new customers, as well as develop current contacts. By identifying the goals and needs, efforts can be very well-directed and effective.
 4. 4. Marketing

I have designed and implemented marketing plans to further broad company objectives, like brand recognition, and to promote specific projects.

Created marketing plans for a long-term care facility and to promote events and services

Worked with board members, staff, and volunteer committees to carry out marketing plan

Include comprehensive tools to achieve objectives: media relations, web site, advertising, direct mail, e-mail campaigns, newsletters, networking

Planning success: Effective marketing plans start with specific, measurable goals and outline the strategies and timeline to meet those goals.
 5. 5. Event Planning

I have years of experience in event planning, from informational seminars to fundraising events with hundreds of participants. Following are a few of the events I have coordinated:

Open houses

Informational seminars

Social gatherings

Doctor’s Day at the Evansville Museum

Fundraising walks and luncheons to benefit the National MS Society

Job fairs

Planning it Right: Events go well when every detail has been outlined. Considering your audience and the goals for the event guide all planning decisions and help to ensure success.
 6. 6. Project Management

Marketing, public relations and communications involve handling multiple projects at once. The following ensures they all go well:

Outline goals for each project

Make timelines for when specific tasks should be completed

Keep to-do lists for each project

Keep in touch with others working on the project

Allow for the unexpected to occur, leaving time and resources to resolve any last-minute issues

Juggling Act: Working on different projects at once can feel like a juggling act. But all goes well with careful planning, communication and organization.
 7. 7. Volunteer Management

I have served in many volunteer roles, led multiple volunteer committees, and have been trained in volunteer recruitment, retention and leadership.

Completed training course on recruiting, retaining and motivating volunteers

Led volunteer committees for fundraising events to benefit the National MS Society

Past Chair, Project Implementation & Membership Arrangements for the Junior League of Evansville

Led volunteer committee for Cub Scout Pack 383

Past Chair, Volunteer committee, for the Race for the Cure

Learning from experience: As an active community volunteer, I know first-hand what motivates volunteers: a belief in the mission and a sense of accomplishment. Volunteer retention is achieved by giving them individual attention and using their skills wisely.
 8. 8. Business Development & Networking

Working with not-for-profits and community service agencies has shown me the value of creating a strong network with businesses, professionals and the community.

Worked with economic developers, chambers of commerce, and educators to improve workforce skills

Collaborated with local businesses to support fundraising efforts

Support local not-for-profits through Junior League

Garner community support for projects and fundraising events

Joint effort: Networking provides opportunities to join with other organizations and community members. This collaboration generates a greater result than working alone.
 9. 9. Public Speaking

I am comfortable speaking to a group of 5 or 500. Through work experience, I have honed my public speaking skills.

As a Business Services and Communications Specialist, I frequently spoke to groups of 20 – 50 about the services available

As a Community Development Manager, I presented before fundraising and business constituents to discuss fundraising, organizational goals, and services

As a Marketing Director, I spoke with a variety of social and community service groups 1 – 2 times per month

A clear message: An effective presentation starts with knowing the audience, their expectations, and the key points that should be conveyed. These guide the presentation.
