Emperor Qin <ul><li>Ruled China for 11 years. </li></ul><ul><li>Began to rule when he was 13. </li></ul><ul><li>Was an extremely powerful ruler. </li></ul><ul><li>Qin was the first emperor. </li></ul><ul><li>Started as king then forced all of China to be under his rule. </li></ul><ul><li>Often cruel to stay in power. </li></ul><ul><li>Always expected everyone to revolt. </li></ul>

How Qin Standardized Everything <ul><li>It was called legalism. </li></ul><ul><li>People had to serve the state without a choice. </li></ul><ul><li>He controlled people with generous rewards and severe punishments. </li></ul><ul><li>He made Qinzhuan the standard font and weights, measures and money all the same. </li></ul><ul><li>Qin buried 460 scholars alive because he was afraid they would influence peoples thinking about trying to destroy him. </li></ul>

The Great Wall Of China <ul><li>Over 4,000 miles long. </li></ul><ul><li>Qin made over 300,000 peasants build the wall. </li></ul><ul><li>Much farther north than the current wall. </li></ul><ul><li>There have been 4 major walls. They were made in: 208 BC (the Qin Dynasty), 1st century BC (Han Dynasty), 1138-1198 (the 5 dynasties and ten kingdoms period), and 1368-1620 (from Hongwu emperor until Wanli of the Ming dynasty) </li></ul>

Terracotta Warriors <ul><li>Built to accompany Qin in the afterlife. </li></ul><ul><li>The soldiers stand in battle ready formation. </li></ul><ul><li>Discovered accidentally in 1974 by farmers trying to dig a well. </li></ul><ul><li>Each warrior is different. </li></ul><ul><li>The warriors hold real </li></ul><ul><li>weapons. </li></ul><ul><li>Buried along with terracotta </li></ul><ul><li>horses and wooden chariots </li></ul>

Interesting Facts <ul><li>The Great Wall Of China supposedly follows the tracks of a helpful dragon. </li></ul><ul><li>The Great Wall of China is one of the 7 medieval wonders of the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Qin invented a food called sauerkraut. It is made out of cabbage pickled in wine. Qin gave this to the Great Wall builders. </li></ul><ul><li>The Great Wall is 25 feet high in some places, and ranges 15-30 feet wide. </li></ul>
  8. 8. About The Author Elise Elise was born on December 9, 1999 in Boston Massachusetts. She has two siblings. Her brother Brennon is 15 years old. Her sister Luisa is 12 years old. She has a pet bird named Trooper. She plays hockey, lacrosse, and softball. Her goals for the future are to go to a good college and to have a good future.
