(SVOS) delivers the storage return on investment,

embedded virtualization capabilities of Hitachi Virtual
Storage Platform (VSP).
Hitachi SVOS is an integrated software system that
provides the foundation for global storage virtual-
ization. It abstracts and manages heterogeneous
storage systems to provide a unified virtual storage
layer, resource pooling and automation. And SVOS
performs these tasks at enterprise scale with enter-
prise performance and reliability. It creates a virtual
storage environment that is available, automated and
agile. With self-optimization, automation, increased
operational efficiency, and improved performance
and storage utilization, SVOS delivers the most re-

Global Storage Virtualization

Global storage virtualization
connects and integrates multiple virtual-
ized storage platforms with active-active
clustering and volumes that span phys-
ical systems. Global active devices are
the spanned virtual volumes. Spanned
active-active volumes offer simplified
high-availability server configurations and
attractive distributed architecture advan-
tages for concurrent applications in 2 site
In this environment, integrated SVOS
storage system software provides system
element management and advanced
storage system functions. Such functions
include storage virtualization, thin provi-
sioning, storage service level controls and
performance instrumentation across multi-
ple storage platforms.
Enterprise IT is becoming overwhelmed by
the amount and variability of data, appli-
cations and change required to support
today’s information-intensive businesses. IT
is hindered by complex storage infrastruc-

Hitachi SVOS abstracts information from
storage systems, virtualizes and pools avail-
able storage resources and automates key
to centrally manage Hitachi storage systems
along with virtualized 3rd-party storage.
Device Manager is included with SVOS and
provides user, logical, physical and host
management views that enable configura-
tion, provisioning and storage pooling for
primary and secondary storage. It offers
multiple levels of security and resource par-
titioning for disks, ports and administrators.
Its reporting capabilities enable capacity
analysis based on server or application, or
physical storage class usage. A complete
command line interface (CLI) management
interface is also included.
Additional Hitachi Command Suite prod-
ucts are available for specific advanced
management functions, such as data
