  • djfick70 djfick70 guestc03dde --I agree with you that greed lies at the heart of the Madoff affair --his greed and that of his investors, but I believe you should consider the potential effect of the death-penalty as a deterrent to those who are fully aware of their actions and persistently engage in such actions over an extensive period of time. For those high-functioning sociopaths (I'm referring to non-violent criminals here specifically) who would meet the legal burden of being 'of sound mind' --e.g. Madoff, Ken Lay, et al-- a zero-tolerance death-penalty policy might cause them to think twice. 5 years ago

  • lorelei77 lorelei77 Let's get real, please. If I steal a loaf of bread from Safeway, I'll do more time than Madoff will. And who says the death penalty is too severe? No one died? Have you read about the 'Great Depression'? Do you recall what many well-to-do people did when they lost everything? It was only a matter of time before history started to repeat. IT HAS STARTED; 'http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081224/ap_ on_bi_ge/madoff_investor_suicide'. And brother, this is only the beginning... 5 years ago

  • Mr_Thell Mr_Thell Pretty embarrassing. It's embarrassing that the SEC didn't see these red flags themselves, that they didn't listen to Markopolos when he presented them time and again, and then that they didn't even act AFTER they themselves had acknowledged that, yes, this operation is clearly not above-board. The SEC is a bungling operation at best and consciously derelict in their duties at worst.

And it makes the NASD and NASDAQ look like a bunch of clowns at best and having in essence been complicit in fraud at worst.
