    • Hayley Brabson ENG 102 Cutler Part 1 In today’s society sexually transmitted diseased are running ramped. You hear about them everywhere. Each year schools begin sexual education classes for younger and younger children. My brother had his first sexual education class in sixth grade. Most schools today teach abstinence only sexual education. This is the method where you educate children on the harmful effects of sex and encourage them to hold off until marriage. The question I pose in this essay is ‘Are the school systems doing nothing to prevent the problem by the way we teach the children in abstinence only education?’ I have been studying this topic in research papers since my junior year of high school and each time I do the research I come up with a different answer myself. I think this question is problematic because people today see sex as such a casual thing and most never consider the health problems that could ensue, even if precautions were taken to be as safe as possible. 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease this year and if the schools are responsible because they are not properly educating their students then they need to be held accountable and change their methods.
