  • 5. Daywear VersusEvening GlamourUntil the 1930swealthy women hadnot really needed towear practical dayclothes. Althoughstyles had beendesignated daystyles if they wereimpractical it hadnot really matteredas long as maidstook care of chores.
  • 6. War clothesIn Britain fashionwas a forgottenluxury. We hadrationing of clothing,so most civilians hadto manage withwhatever clothingthey started the warwith, being only ableto replace a fewthings when theywore out. Those weredays of make do andmend, I socks forexample.
  • 7. Girls and boysIn 1939 all girls woredresses and skirts.Usually a simple blousewas very popular. Orskirts that went down tothe knees and to theankles. The dresses wereusually button down.Men usually buttondown shirts with tiesand long dress brownishcoloured pants.Men for shoes, woreleather dress shoes.
