Who would be the audience for your media product final.docx
1. Who would be the audience for
your media product
Getting the audience right for your media product is vital
as it determines the success of it, getting it wrong will lead
to the failure in your media product in my case my music
magazine wouldn’t sell any copies. When I started my
research and planning I had to be sure on who the target
audience was and who would buy the magazine I was
going to create. Your target audience determine how the
final product looks such as the fonts you use the colour
scheme and the general content of the magazine as it has
to appeal to your audience members. If you don’t create
an appealing product for your target audience it wont be
successful and it wont sell, most genres have key
conventions which are general knowledge, for example
indie is known for being more dark and emotional, due to
the audience.
2. Alternative indie rock is still a niche market however it
is becoming more and more popular and could turn
into a mass market, due to the growing interest in it. It
appeals to those who are independent and due to
new genres always appearing and new styles set by
the stars it seems everyone is wanting their own style
and the genre is becoming more and more popular
because of it. People who like pop music are known
as being mainstream due to being affected by the
charts etc.. and then people follow fashions from the
stars wanting to be them, not necessarily being them
selves
3. My primary audience will be males, and girls being
my secondary audience as many girls listen to indie
rock as well, and from my research it was proven from
an NME case study that their primary audience was
dominated by males and females being their second,
as due to NME being the same genre as my music
magazine it means that I should be targeting the
same audience if I want my product to be successful.
4. Target audience
• 16-25
• Male
• White
• Working/middle class
• B-C2, E
• Straight
• The reason for including students within the income
bracket is due to students being of a higher intellectual
knowledge due to them studying still and will be able to
fine inspiration and find themselves within the music as it
is independent.
5. VAL type
• VAL type:
• Experiences-people who enjoy trying everything and seeking
• new experiences to try, gets bored easily, enjoys music and films, young,
likes
• fast food, goes against the normal wanting to be unique.
• Strivers- People who aim high and want to achieve something,
• but are insecure – indie music gives them an alternative identity and
deals with their emotions and feelings of being an ‘outsider’ within
society.
• Fun/Atics-Thrill seeking, active and young
• The income bracket I have chosen matches well with the VAL
• types above, and give me a better understanding of who will be
interested in my
• new alternative indie rock magazine.
