Though the display is as largeas a higher-end machine, the case is thinner, about 1 to 2 inches, andweighs 5 to 7 pounds. The weight and size of the notebook is reducedby avoiding a floppy drive or the CD-ROM/ DVD-ROM.

Thepen can be used to open, close or drag files using a mouse or writenotes or type e-mail using a keyboard. The first commercial Tablet-typecomputer was designed by the GRiD Systems in the 1989. It was knownas the GRiDPad and used MS-DOS as its operating system. Later in1993, IBM released the 750P and 360P series of tablet computers intothe consumer market. With the advent of Microsoft Windows XP TabletPC Edition in 2002, the Tablet PC market was standardized withMicrosoft operating systems.
