Year B: Epiphany of the Lord (Matthew 2:1-12) - Presentation Transcript
Matthew 2:1-12
The wise men travelled far to look for the One who was born under the star.
The wise men teach us to be wise - to look for the One who can give us meaning and life.
The wise men brought gold, frankincense, & myrrh as gifts.
The wise men teach us to offer our most valuable gift - ourselves - to Him.
In olden times, gold was a gift given only to kings.
Gold represents pure and everlasting love.
Frankincense is used in the liturgy as a sign of worship.
Frankincense represents the desire to adore God.
Myrrh was used as an embalming ointment and as a penitential incense in funerals and cremations.
Myrrh represents the willingness to sacrifice and give up everything for God.
Our love for God should be as pure and lasting as gold . And it should be expressed through worship and willingness to sacrifice for others.
