    1. Business Case Analyser Financial measures have many names. The most widely accepted measurement of valuing projects and implementations today is Return on Investment, or commonly referred to as ROI. However, when business leaders ask the simple question of what is the ROI of an investment, they are assailed with numbers that represent many other measures of value such as Payback Period, NPV, or IRR. Now you might be thinking to yourself, maybe there is more than one way to measure ROI? Strictly speaking, ROI is a single measure with a specific formula for calculation. The other measures mentioned are also strong financial measures that provide additional insights into the relative benefits of an investment and should not to be confused with ROI. The point is that there are significant differences between these measures and by understanding the uses of these measures, and why they should be considered collectively, a more powerful business case can be written to support your investment decision.     2. Features Summary The Business Case Analyser enables you to define a business case, comparing two alternatives. By specifying benefits and costs over a span of years (1-5) for both alternatives, all four benchmarks are calculated automatically and graphically displayed. Definition: - Two investment cases (alternative and reference case) can be specified, for which the comparisons will be made. - Primary and secondary benefit areas can be specified (1-9); - Direct and indirect cost areas can be specified (1-9). Benefits and Costs: - For each benefit and cost area, cash inflows (benefits) and outflows (costs) can be specified for a period ranging from 1-5 years. Analysis: For each of the specified cases as well as their difference, the following financial benchmarks are calculated: - Net Cash Flow. This is the (yearly) balance remaining after deducting cash outflows from cash inflows. - Cumulative Cash Flow. This is the cumulative balance remaining after deducting cash outflows from cash inflows over a certain period of time. - Net Present Value with year-end discounting and mid-year discounting. For both cases, a low and high interest level can be specified. - Return on Investment from full cash flow and incremental cash flow. This will be done for 3, 4 and 5 years. - Payback Period from net cash flow and discounted cash flow. Interest rate can be set. - Internal Rate of Return and Modified Internal Rate of Return from net incremental cash flow. Graphical Summary: For both cases as well as the comparison case, the calculated financial benchmarks are summarized (table) and the following information is graphically displayed: - Net cash flow projections; - Cumulative cash flow projections; - Net and discounted cash flow (low interest). - Net and discounted cash flow (high interest).
