TIPS ON TRAINING END USERS AND PROVIDING DOCUMENTATION Basic Web Editor Training  Log in to the CMS  Navigate in the CMS in the Asset Tree  Search and find assets by URL  Edit and update text content in an existing CMS web page  Edit and create a table in an existing CMS web page  Edit and create hyperlinks in an existing CMS web page  Insert an image in an existing CMS web page (using Image Uploader tool)  Insert a document in an existing CMS web page (using Document Uploader tool)  Create new assets such as files, pages, folders  Archive and delete web content

HOW TO MAKE SMALL WINS THROUGH DEPARTMENTAL REDESIGN PROJECTS  Have a support infrastructure for Web Content Editors  Advice and strategic direction from the Web Support Services.  Support and training from the Web Support Services.  Integration with departments.  Utilize automated process (i.e. templates, site design and software) to enforce standards everywhere possible.

AUDITING AND EDITING WEB CONTENT  Redesign and Redevelop Website - Project Phases  Discovery - gather requirements and specifications  Design - prepare project plan with scheduled timeline and list of deliverables, create page layouts, design data structures, identify data sources  Development - coding of functionality for each user interface  Testing - client and field testing to assure usability, functionality, and security  Launch - finalize and approve all documentation and promotion and go live  Maintenance - periodic update of time-sensitive information, debug unanticipated issues, adjust for browser updates, add new features and make client-requested tweaks

AUDITING AND EDITING WEB CONTENT (CONT.)  Website Compliance  Information should be able to be retrieved through clear navigation, meaningful web addresses (URLs) and/or via the search engine.  Content irrespective of its format should be searchable. For example, Word files, .pdf documents and web pages should be indexed by the search engine.  Enforce the use of a standards checklist by university that lists essential elements that must be included on each Web page, specifying placement, color and navigation of these elements.  Promote and enforce web standards  Create a Best Practices Guide  Create Web Content Standards
