Who Was Thomas Paine? <ul><li>Paine was one of our countries founding fathers </li></ul><ul><li>He was also an author, pamphleteer radical, inventor, intellectual, and revolutionary </li></ul><ul><li>Born in Norfolk, he emigrated to British Colonies and participated in the American Revolution </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why Was He Important? <ul><li>He created the pamphlet Common Sense which was widely read and advocated American Independence </li></ul><ul><li>Also wrote the pamphlet The American Crisis </li></ul>

Importance Continued <ul><li>He had great influence in the French Revolution </li></ul><ul><li>Wrote The Rights of Man </li></ul><ul><li>Was elected to the French National Convention </li></ul><ul><li>Imprisoned in 1793 for being an enemy to the Montagnards </li></ul><ul><li>Released in 1794, he wrote The Age of Reason </li></ul>
