    • The Religion of Haiti
      • Religion in Haiti is primarily Catholic, but includes voodoo for most citizens
      • Although regarded as sacrilege by some of the Protestant Catholics in Haiti, Voodoo is widely practiced and integrated into Catholic worship
      • Voodoo is usually practiced on family plots on private land
    • The Religion of Haiti Continued
      • Haitians were able to mix the two religions, Catholicism and voodoo, because they were similar in that they both believe in a supreme being and the existence of evil spirits
      • A voodoo ritual begins with a Roman Catholic prayer then the attendees begin to dance to a drummer’s beat
      • The voodoo religion in Haiti came over with African slaves
    • The Religion of Haiti Continued
      • Contrary to popular belief and the media, Voodoo is not about zombies and sorcery
      • Centered around “family spirits” which protect children in exchange for ceremonies where food is offered
      • The family spirits can cause illness if they are displeased, so voodoo is used to diagnose and treat these illnesses
