  • 3. She grew up inChevyChase, Maryland withher 3 brothers andattendeda Quaker school in theD.C area calledSidwell Friends.
  • 4. She studiedPhilosophy at BarnardCollege, part ofColumbia UniversityinNew York City.
  • 5. She became an Editorin New York City.An Editor and a Fulltime writer.The Sisterhood of theTraveling Pants washer first novel.
  • 6. The Idea behindthe Novel.“It started with aconversation. A woman Iused to work with, a dearfriend, JodiAnderson, talked about asummer where she and herfriends had shared a pair ofpants that end up beinglost. It was sad but Iloved the idea – a concretething in the middle of agreat big, amorphous worldof fiction.”

  • 8. The MainCharacters ofthe Story are thefourfriends, namelyTibby Tomko-Rollins, LenaKaligaris, CarmenLowell and BridgetVreeland.
  • 9. These four friendstried to keep in touch forthe first summer thatthey are to have withoutthe company of eachother. The pants becamea unifying symbol forthem that bonded themeven though they are farfrom each other. Things happenedwhile they have the pantswith them, problems arisebut they were able tosettle them when thepants got its return toeach one of them.
  • 10. The night beforethey part ways, theSisterhood was formedand they made a vow tokeep the ten“commandments” of theSisterhood of theTraveling Pants and towrite each other and tellthem their stories whilethey have the Pants withthem. And here are themain characters with theirdifferent stories with thePants. 
  • 11. Tibby Tomko-Rollins She was justat home during thesummer but sheworked atWallman’s storeand befriended thetwelve-year oldBailey who is sick.
  • 12. Lena Kaligaris She went toGreece with hersister Effie to visittheir grandparents.There, hergrandmotheracquaint her toKostos, also aresident of theplace.
  • 13. Carmen Lowell She went toSouth Carolina tovisit her fatherwhere she wassurprised to knowa secret: her fatheris about to bemarried to awoman withchildren.
  • 14. Bridget Vreeland She went toBaja California inMexico to join theCamp of soccerplayers. ThereShe fell in love withone of theCamp’s coaches.
  • 15. And as the Journey of thePants comes to a close thatsummer, the friends had their late-night celebration. The celebration alsobecame the occasion for them tocelebrate their own birthdays for theirbirthdays are not that far from eachothers’ date. There they promised thatthe Pants shall be worn again nextsummer. And that is how the Pantschanged their lives and improved theirfriendship…
