  • OBJECTIVES After completing the session thelearners will be able to identify theirresponsibilities towards the patientand the community. Able to differentiate the patientsresponsibilities towards the healthcare system.
  • INTRODUCTIONIn olden days the primary purpose of ahealth care system was to provide care tothe ill and injured. However, withincreasing awareness health care systemsare changing, as are the roles of healthcare providers in these areas. Health careproviders has the many responsibilitiestowards community and clients. Apart fromus our clients has some responsibilitiestowards the health care system also.
  • HEALTH CARE SYSTEM Definition :A health care system isthe totality of services offered by allhealth disciplines.
  • HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS Health care provider is an individualor an institution that providespreventive, curative, promotional orrehabilitative health care services in asystematic way to individuals,families or communities.
  • Terminology Preventative care:A pattern of nursing and medical carethat focuses on disease prevention andhealth maintenance. It includes earlydiagnosis of disease, counseling, andother necessary intervention to avert ahealth problem. Screening tests, healtheducation, and immunization programsare common examples of preventivecare.
  •  Curative care: Curative care is thekind of health care traditionallyoriented towards seeking a cure foran existent disease or medicalcondition.
  •  Rehabilitative care: Rehabilitativecare is a treatment or treatmentsdesigned to facilitate the process ofrecovery from injury, illness, ordisease to as normal a condition aspossible.
  • Types of health care services Health promotion & illness Prevention( Primary Prevention) Diagnosis & treatment ( SecondaryPrevention ) Rehabilitation & health restoration( Tertiary Prevention )
  • HEALTH PROMOTION & ILLNESSPREVENTION Health promotion activities includeadequate & proper nutrition, weight control& exercise and stress reduction. Illness prevention program emphasis onimmunization, identifying risk factors ofillness. It also include environmental programs thatcan reduce the illness or disability. Early detection of disease is also a part ofhealth promotion.
  • Responsibilities of government, health care providersand the community in primary prevention Governmental agencies role orresponsibility:Governmental agencies support the systemthrough providing resources.Resources may be funds, place, time,manpower, supplies etc.,Health care agencies are collaborating withinternational agencies to conduct and organizethese programs.

  • Health care providers role orresponsibility: Conduct the health programs with theavailable resources such as immunization,health teaching, school health,environmental sanitation etc., Health teaching is the main responsibilityas primary care giver. Home visits.
  •  Follow up of teaching. Encourage the community or peopleto maintain the highest level ofwellness they can achieve. Maintain a record or data who hasparticipated in these programs
  •  For early detection of diseases routinescreening is performed. Simple measures like blood pressurechecking, blood examinations etc., Voluntary HIV testing & counseling isan other example of some of theservices.
  • Community responsibility towardsemployees: Participate in the health careprograms organized by the healthcare providers or agencies Follow the instruction given by thehealth care providers. Provide reliable data about theirfamily and their health status.
  • DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT Hospitals and physician’s offices havebeen the major agencies offeringthese complex services.Governmental agencies responsibility:Try to build diagnostic centers which iseasily access by the community.Supply with adequate machines andequipmentsRecruit specialized and trainedpersonnels for the job
  • Employees responsibility:Give adequate guidance regarding theseservices and method of each diagnosticprocedures.Introduce them with the availability ofdiagnostic centers and clinics.Psychological support and let themventilate their feelings.Keep the data confidentially..
  •  Community Responsibility:Access these free services providedby the governmental agencies.Follow the instructions given by thehealth care providers.Provide reliable and accurate data tothe agencies.
  • REHABILITATION, HEALTHRESTORATION & PALLIATIVE CARE Rehabilitation is a process ofrestoring ill or injured people tooptimum and functional levels ofwellness. The goal of rehabilitation is to helppeople to move to their previous levelof health or to the highest level theyare capable of given their currenthealth status.
  • Governmental agencies responsibility:Provide with rehabilitative centers easilyaccessible for the people.Provide free service as much as possible.Supply adequate equipments needed tomeet the palliative care for the clients.Employees Responsibilities:Introduce them with the nearestrehabilitative centers.
  • Educate them regarding theimportance of rehabilitation.Keep a record of these people.Community responsibility:Follow the instructions and contactyour primary health care providers inneed.Religiously follow the appointments.
  • Apart from these responsibilitiesclients and health care providers hasmany more responsibilities:Health care providers:Respect each client irrespective oftheir cast, color, creed , social status,etc.,Make them aware about theirresponsibilities as well.
  •  Address them with your proper name Give proper and correct informationregarding their diagnosis, treatment. To give care options when otherfacilities are available. Give privacy and confidentiality. Show respect and consideration. Consider them as unique individual.
  • Clients responsibilities towards the healthcare system:Provide complete and accurate informationincluding your health status present or past,habits, other mattersKeep on times for appointmentsClear your queries when you are in a doubt.Home environmental condition.Family and social status
  • CONCLUSION As WHO states “Health is a state ofcomplete physical, mental and socialwell being and not merely theabsence of disease or infirmity". Tokeep this motto up our health careproviders are approaching thecommunity in a systematic way inorder to prevent or cure healthproblems and promote good health inhumans.
