  • Texting is still the number one reason why teens say they get a phone, with 43% reporting this as their primary reason for mobile adoption
  • Worlds first text message was sent in 1992
    December 1992, when Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old test engineer for Sema Group used a personal computer to send the text message "Merry Christmas" via the Vodafone network to the phone of Richard Jarvis.
  • On New Year's day 2003, the number of text messages sent in one day topped one hundred million
  • On New Year's day 2011, the number of text messages sent in one day topped 380 million
  • In 2011.......
    There are more than 5.3 billion mobile devices in use globally
  • In 2011.......
    8 trillion text messages will be sent in 2011
  • 31% prefer texting to talking on the phone
  • Mobile owners between the ages of 18 and 24 exchange an average of 109.5 messages on a normal day

    Global mobile messaging market was worth USD 179.2 billion in 2010, and is set to pass the USD 200 billion mark in 2011. It will break USD 300 billion for the first time in 2014; by end-2015 annual revenue will hit an incredible USD 334.7 billion.
