Games industry

  1. 1. The video game industry sometimes referred to as the interactive entertainment industry it is the economic sector involved with the development, marketing and sales of video games. It encompasses dozens of job disciplines and employs thousands of people worldwide. Computer games are any interactive game operated by computer circuitry it is also played by operating a mouse, joystick or the keys on the keyboard of a computer in response to the graphics on the screen. It involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device.
  2. 2. Size, shape and structure The computer and video game industries have took in about US $9.5 billion in the us in 2007, 11.7 billion in 2008 and 25.1 billion in 2010 (ESA annual report). Employ a total of 7,000 people in the uk. The uk is europes largest video game market and the third largest in the world. The uk games market generated $5.2bn of revenues in 2012 with the total number of gamers at 33.6million, the total time spent on games was on average 11 hours per person a week.
  3. 3. Companies-Rock star Games Rock star games is a multinational video game developer and publisher based in New York City, owned by Take-Two Interactive following its purchase of British video game publisher BMG Interactive. The brand is mostly known for: • Grand Theft Auto • Max Payne • L.A. Noire • The Warriors • Bully • Manhunt • Midnight Club
  4. 4. Companies-EA Games EA games Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) is an American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games. Founded and incorporated on May 28, 1982 by Trip Hawkins. They are not owned by any other company. The brand is mostly known for: • FIFA football/soccer • Battlefield • Need for speed • The Sims • Star wars
  5. 5. Ownership of companies Infinity is an American video game developer, It created the video game Call of Duty and four other instalments in the Call of Duty franchise. Owned by activision blizzard which is the American holding company for activision and blizzard entertainment. It’s the second largest gaming company by revenue after Nintendo.
  6. 6. • Take-two has published many famous games including its most famous series grand theft auto, the midnight club racing series the man hunt series and more recently bioshock. • Activision blizzard portfolio includes best selling video games such as call of duty as well as spider man x men and transformers
  7. 7. Computer games and companies in the creative media sector Many games switch to having soundtracks that come from popular tracks of the day. "Grand Theft Auto", "Guitar Hero", "Elite Beat Agents" all have pretty popular songs. And the music industry, it makes a lot of sense to them to get them in games because rather than having the song played on the radio maybe twice a day you get a game: a kid might play a level seven, eight hundred times, depending on how much they love the game, so they're hearing that song constantly, and it ends up as really great marketing for the music industry. Its also great for them, but sometimes not as great for composers who, I mean, back in the day when you'd make a game you'd hire a composer to come and do a soundtrack for you, and it seems like maybe they're getting the short end of the stick now, but the music industry is doing exceedingly well going through games just because of the exposure.
  8. 8. Relates to other creative industries The games industry is related to the advertisement and marketing it is a synergy for example the Fifa game the product coca cola advertised while the characters are playing football as well as the interactive media company because many game websites tell there audience about upcoming and new games that are coming out. The photography and photo imaging industry and the advertising and marketing industry also are related because the cover of a game is advertised on posters showing buyers how or what the game will look like giving them an option to buy it.
