Introduction - <br />Human resource management emphasizes on the strategic approach to managing manpower in an organization to achieve organizational objectives and the growth of its personnel. <br />Today’s industry sees employee count and its perpetual growth as a benchmark of its overall growth hence the oblivious challenges of retaining and expanding its talent base makes Human Resource Management Department one of the most valued assets of a company.<br />Till the early 80’s the department was termed as ‘Personnel Management’ which later transformed to ‘Human Resource Management’, the name is suggestive of the fact that today employees are considered the most valued assets of an organization. <br />Faced with the challenges of Quantitative Vs. Qualitative human resources, the process of managing calls for a specialized study and application of the same that has come in the wake of realization that the employees collectively or individually are the drivers to the achievement of business objectives.<br />

The task of Human Resource professionals can be broadly classified as:<br />Identifying and addressing individual needs and career goals.<br />To develop a cordial environment between workers, to ensure collective productivity leading to a uniform organizational culture.<br />Identifying potential shortcomings across various departments and prescribing remedial measures.<br />Create a platform for interaction between employees and Management to create a coherent growth environment.<br />Devise measures to increase employee loyalty and personal satisfaction.<br />Recruiting and managing workforce such that, Resource crunch does not lead to loss of productivity.<br />Devising policies and strategies such that they comply with labor laws and meet the expectations of Labor unions.<br />
  • 5. 1.  Postgraduate Program in Personnel management and Industrial relations –2 year full time program on completion of which students are conferred a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations. It can be pursued following graduation in any discipline.<br />2.  MBA Specialization :Human Resources (HR) (often overlaps with PGPIR/PM - offered by likes of TISS, XLRI)2 year full time program on completion of which students are conferred a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources or Masters of Management Studies in Human Resources. It can be pursued following graduation in any discipline.<br />3. MA in HRM and Labor/ Industrial Relations /Industrial PshycologyIt is a 2 year full time program which is usually pursued following graduation in arts (BA).<br />MBA However happens to be the preferred entry route to a career in HRM. Admission to the program involves an entrance test followed by group discussion and Personal interview. Look up Mba Entrance exams for further Details.<br />

Career Roadmap:<br />Prominent business schools offer high paying placements, where you join the company as a Mid-Level Manager or at an Executive Level. <br />Once you join an Organization growth is relatively slow but steady. Also HR professionals are flexible in the sense they can switch jobs across Industries as HR functions are universal. <br />With industries spreading across the globe, the management of cross cultural workforces is an important factor and opens doors to new fields of management and calls for different areas of specialization. <br />The development of technology to smoothen HR functions is also a very important aspect HR professionals have to deal with.<br />
