The technical branch includes all the engineers required by the Army for efficient operation, communication, maintenance and repair of the equipments and also to solve technical problems coming during the army operations.<br />The Corps of Engineers is one of the oldest arms of the Indian Army. The origin of the Corps dates back to 1780 when the two regular pioneer companies of the Madras Sappers were raised. Subsequently, the Group of Madras, Bengal and Bombay Sappers were formed and later merged on 18 November 1932 to form the Corps of Engineers in its present forms.<br />The Corps of Engineers consists of three major constituents namely Combat Engineers, MES and Border Roads. The Corps also provides officers to the Military Survey and Defence Research & Development Organization<br />

Engineers<br />These armed personnel help in rapid movement of the three arms by building roads, bridges, airfields and destroying enemy bridges, putting obstacles for enemy movement, laying mine fields for their defence and destroying enemy minefields. <br />They construct camps and accommodation for troops; prepare helipads, roads, electric power stations for camps.<br />They do survey work, make maps and destroy unexploded bombs.<br />Signals<br />Signals personnel provide, operate, maintain communication link between all troops in the battle field, all army establishments, between other arms and civil requirements as per army's need. <br />They also specialize in control of electronic warfare. Modern, rapid and accurate communication is an essential part of army weapon system.<br />
  5. 5. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME)<br />Troops of this service are concerned with servicing, maintenance, repairs and fabrication of technical equipments. From rifles to vehicles, missiles, tanks, other weapon, communication equipment, helicopters, electric equipments, in fact all what army requires and can be used after repairs, is the concern of EME.<br />The working staff includes Mechanical Engineers, Electrical/Electronic Engineers, Aeronautical Engineers, Electronics and Communication Engineers.<br />For this branch army recruits engineers for their officer cadres and trains them further according to its needs.<br />Indian Army at the Commonwealth Games Stadium,  Engineers from The Madras Engineer Group, informally known as the Madras Sappers (a regiment of the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army) are elated after successfully erecting and commissioning the "Bailey Bridge" near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.<br />
