Introduction to bachelor of science in microbiology

  1. 1.
  2. 2. Introduction to Bachelor of Science in Microbiology<br />
  3. 3. Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a three year, full time Graduation course which deals with the study of microorganisms, which are microscopic, unicellular, and cell-cluster organisms. <br />Microbiology typically includes the study of the immune system, or Immunology, the interaction of the immune system with pathogenic microbes<br />Microbiology is a broad term which includes virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology and other branches. A microbiologist gains expertise in the above mentioned fields.<br />
  4. 4. Eligibility:<br />Passed Class12(Science) or Equivalent from a recognised University <br />    Compulsory Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology    <br /> Some Universities conduct an entrance test<br />
  5. 5. Course Description:<br />
  6. 6. Options after the course:<br />Employment<br /><ul><li>Microbiologists can work across industries such as Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Pathology, Food and Beverages, Enviromental Organizations, Chemical Industries, Biotechnology Etc.Some of the Careers typically taken up by Microbiology graduates are:
  7. 7. Bacteriologists : Work on the study of bacteriaMycologists : Work on the study of fungiMedical Microbiologists : diagnosis and treatment of microbial diseases in patientsBiochemist : Research the evolution, growth and propogation of organisms Immunologists : Research and Study on the Immune SystemParasitologists : Study of ParasitesProtozoologists : Work on the study of protistsCell Biologists : Explore the actions of molecules on and in the cell. Their investigations determine how microorganisms and cell function.Geneticists : The language of life is written with four letters, A, C, G, and T. Each letter taken by itself is meaningless. But together the letter create a code of life. Geneticists study the process by which organisms inherit and transmit genetic information.
  8. 8. Food Microbiologists : Study microorganisms that cause foodborne illness and spoilage of foodVirologists : Study viruses and bacteriophages. Virologists are interested in how viruses change and are always on the alert for new types.</li></li></ul><li><ul><li>Biotechnologist : Manipulate genes in order to modify microorganisms. Their work produced novel organisms that make new products for human use. (i.e. insulin, medicine, grocery store items).
  9. 9. Environmental Microbiologists : Work on the study of microbial processes in the environment
  10. 10. Other Careers:Industrial Microbiologists : Involves working in the field of biotechnology to study microorganisms that produce useful products.Science Writer : Subject Matter Expert for Technical WritingTeachers : Teaching in the field of related fields</li></ul>Study Further<br />An Individual can choose to study Masters of Science(MSc) / Masters of Philosophy / PDoctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology in India or Abroad<br />
