  • 1.
  • 2. Introduction to Bachelor of Science in Microbiology
  • 3. Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a three year, full time Graduation course which deals with the study of microorganisms, which are microscopic, unicellular, and cell-cluster organisms.
Microbiology typically includes the study of the immune system, or Immunology, the interaction of the immune system with pathogenic microbes
Microbiology is a broad term which includes virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology and other branches. A microbiologist gains expertise in the above mentioned fields.
  • 4. Eligibility:
Passed Class12(Science) or Equivalent from a recognised University
        Compulsory Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Some Universities conduct an entrance test
  • 5. Course Description:
  • 6. Options after the course:
    Employment
    • Microbiologists can work across industries such as Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Pathology, Food and Beverages, Enviromental Organizations, Chemical Industries, Biotechnology Etc.Some of the Careers typically taken up by Microbiology graduates are:
    • 7. Bacteriologists : Work on the study of bacteriaMycologists : Work on the study of fungiMedical Microbiologists : diagnosis and treatment of microbial diseases in patientsBiochemist : Research the evolution, growth and propogation of organisms Immunologists : Research and Study on the Immune SystemParasitologists : Study of ParasitesProtozoologists : Work on the study of protistsCell Biologists : Explore the actions of molecules on and in the cell. Their investigations determine how microorganisms and cell function.Geneticists : The language of life is written with four letters, A, C, G, and T. Each letter taken by itself is meaningless. But together the letter create a code of life. Geneticists study the process by which organisms inherit and transmit genetic information.
    • 8. Food Microbiologists : Study microorganisms that cause foodborne illness and spoilage of foodVirologists : Study viruses and bacteriophages. Virologists are interested in how viruses change and are always on the alert for new types.
    • Biotechnologist : Manipulate genes in order to modify microorganisms. Their work produced novel organisms that make new products for human use. (i.e. insulin, medicine, grocery store items).
    • 9. Environmental Microbiologists : Work on the study of microbial processes in the environment
    • 10. Other Careers:Industrial Microbiologists : Involves working in the field of biotechnology to study microorganisms that produce useful products.Science Writer : Subject Matter Expert for Technical WritingTeachers : Teaching in the field of related fields
