What is in store <ul><li>Plenary presentations , morning of 22 nd Sept 2011 </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Provide generic background information </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Parallel presentations , afternoon of 22 nd Sept 2011 </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Provide background information in 3 core areas </li></ul></ul><ul><li>2 WGD (Working Group Discussions) and presentations </li></ul><ul><ul><li>WGD1 - focus on 9 questions and details on strategies on action plans for at least 7 prioritized questions/answers (presentation of findings, morning of 23 rd September 2011 – in plenary sessions) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>WGD2 – merging the 3 outputs of WGD1, but still in 3 different groups </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Final Plenary </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Presentation of findings from WGD2 and Q and A </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Open Overall Discussions </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Closing </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Presenting of output and recommendations of this 3 rd EGM on MIR by the rappoteurs </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Closing Statement by Chief, ESWRS, Mr Hongpeng Liu </li></ul></ul>

Workshop organization <ul><li>3 groups </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Participants have been divided into 3 groups as indicated/circulated </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>If you would like to be in a different group, please negotiate with your colleagues/counterparts </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Group 1 - Meeting Room H1 ( rappoteur – Mr Stefan Leitner) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Group 2 - Meeting Room F ( rappoteurs – Ms. Rashmi Tandon and Ms Carole Flouret ) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Group 3 - Meeting Room H2 ( rappoteur – Ms. Teresa Kersting ) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>A participant from each group will present the groups outcomes of WGD1 and WGD2 </li></ul><ul><li>Rappoteurs will summarized and present the draft output and recommendations of this EGM at the final Plenary Session on the afternoon of 23 rd Sept 2011 </li></ul><ul><li>Request all PP Presentations be submitted before lunch today, to enable ESCAP to provide each participants with a CD of the papers </li></ul>

The 9 questions <ul><li>What are the benefits from monitoring investments and results in the water sector? </li></ul><ul><li>What are available templates/frameworks used in the region, member countries, regional and international organization, including the output and outcomes? </li></ul><ul><li>Does the current monitoring include the different investments from donors, at the different levels of governments (federal, state/provincial and local/basin) the private sectors and civil societies? </li></ul><ul><li>What are the institutional arrangements of MIR at the local level? </li></ul><ul><li>Are there gender sensitivities been defined and discussed? </li></ul><ul><li>What are the consequences of land and water degradation on investments and results in the water sector , </li></ul><ul><li>Besides investments in water supply, sanitation, agriculture, flood mitigation and coastal works, has investments (and results) in urban storm water management, ground water use and desalinization be included in the monitoring? </li></ul><ul><li>What policy and institutional frameworks are appropriate so that emerging issues of urbanization, critical pollution levels and impact of climate changes can be included </li></ul><ul><li>How best can we utilize the water-food-energy nexus concept for re-allocation of water resources (and energy) between the various economic activities and to synergize on the investments and results </li></ul>
