Basic facts of activity • Title of the activity: Development of the Compendium of Good Practices (Work Package 7; Activity 7.1) • Duration of the activity: June 2013 – June 2015 • Activity leader: Gregor Gregorič (SLO); Tanja Tajnik (SLO) – external expert • Chairman of the CWP (Country Water Partnership): Martina Zupan

Description of the activity 7.1: • Compendium of good practices will include a review of drought management projects implemented in European; • We will explore the existing documents about drought management across Europe; • We will also analyse other existing drought policy and management documents besides DM plans of SE countries; • We will contact focal points of DMCSSE and Activity leaders of current project with interview about drought policy and management in their countries/regions/organisation; • It is expected that activity leaders will contribute to this publication. Mainly success stories from WP2 and WP5 are expected to be described in the publication.
  4. 4. Content of Compedium 1.Review of existing DMPs from EU (and other regions) 2.Good practises from IDMP CEE (Activities 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6) – we will include only appropriate activities!! 3. Good practises from other projects (EU, world)

Work Package 1: Regional and Transboundary Cooperation • Review of the current status of the implementation of DM plans and measures within RBMP (River Basin Management Plans) according to Water Framework Directive – Activity 1.2 (Elena Fatulova) ↓ Final output: Report on review of the current status of implementation of the drought management plans and measures

Work Package 5: Demonstration Projects • Drought management by agricultural practices and measures-increasing soil water holding capacity – Activity 5.1 (Pavol Bielek) ↓ Final output: Analysis and proposals of preventive measures as a tools for drought management in agricultural practices and technologies • Assessment of drought impact on forest ecosystems – Activity 5.2 (Galia Bardarska) ↓ Final outputs: Establishement od methodology for assessment of drought impact on forest ecosystem & Determination of vulnerability forest zones in contemporary climate (1960- 1991), 2050 (realistic scenarion) and 2100 (optimistic, realistic and pessimistic scenario) & Remedial measures for the forest ecosystems to mitigate negative effects of the drought & Raising policy makers and public awereness in 4 GWP CEE countries

Work Package 5: Demonstration Projects • Natural small water retention measures – Activity 5.3 (Tomasz Okruzsko) ↓ Final output: Natural landscape retention – combining drought mitigation, flood protection and biodiversity conservation • Drought Risk Management Scheme: a decision support system – Activity 5.4 (Tamara Tokarczyk) ↓ Final outputs: Measures for the assesssment of susceptibility and vulnerability & Methods for the drought hazard and risk management & Framework for Drought Risk Management Scheme
  10. 10. Good practices from IDMP (3) 3. Work Package 5: Demonstration Projects • Policy oriented study on remote sensing agricultural drought monitoring methods – Activity 5.5 (prof. dr. János Tomás) ↓ Final outputs: Green and brown water resources on watersheds & Signalling and intervention levels of drought based on remote sensing datasets & Integration of RS and GIS tools and intervention levels into drought monitoring system

Work Package 5: Demonstration Projects • Upgrading agricultural drought monitoring and forecasting: the case of Moldova – Activity 5.6 (Tatiana Adamenko & dr. Ecaterina Kuharuk) ↓ Final outputs: Upgraded climate-zoning of Ukraine territory and Dniester River Basin territory (joint Moldova – Ukraine river basin) in the context of increased drought risk caused by climate change & Drought risk maps for agro sector of Ukraine and Dniester river basin – identification of drought prone areas & Development of forecasting models for identification of crop yield losses caused by droughts Ukraine & Developement of proposals for the precipitation harvesting and practices for moisture conservation in agricultural lands – Moldova & Remedial measures for the agro sector to mitigate negative effects of the drought & Policy makers and stakeholders awareness raising on droughts management/planning

Activity 7.1 – Time frame • Time frame and detailed content of activity (today) • Analyse the current status of the existing Drought Management plans across the Europe and other existing drought policy and managements besides DMPs from EU (August 2014) • Include information, results and good practices from IDMP CEE activities and demo projects – GWP ToolBox (October 2014) • Preparing of publication (December 2014)
