  • Lord of the Flies
    • Leadership Manifesto
  • What makes a good leader?
    • A leader should have a vision or a plan?
  • Manifesto
    • A manifesto is what we call a potential leader’s vision or plan.
    • In a manifesto, leaders set out their intentions so that people can know what kind of a leader this person will be
    • The manifesto makes the leader’s priorities clear so the people can vote for the leader who matches their own priorities best.
  • The Island
    • On the Island, the first thing the boys do is elect a leader but they do it very quickly and without a great deal of thought.
    • Imagine they had taken more time...
    • What would the manifestos for the key characters be like?
  • Your task
    • Write the introduction to your character’s manifesto and the 5 key statements that would summarise your character’s priorities.
    • One person in your group will be the chair person and will feed back to the rest of the class
  • Think about...
    • What would they do first if they were leader?
    • What are their plans for getting off the Island?
    • What would daily life be like with them as leaders? What would you gain from voting for them?
    • Would your character tell the truth? What might they say about the other characters?
    • What does Golding think about the character? What is his reason for including the character in the novel?
