  2. 2. What makes a good leader? <ul><li>A leader should have a vision or a plan? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Manifesto <ul><li>A manifesto is what we call a potential leader’s vision or plan. </li></ul><ul><li>In a manifesto, leaders set out their intentions so that people can know what kind of a leader this person will be </li></ul><ul><li>The manifesto makes the leader’s priorities clear so the people can vote for the leader who matches their own priorities best. </li></ul>
  4. 4. The Island <ul><li>On the Island, the first thing the boys do is elect a leader but they do it very quickly and without a great deal of thought. </li></ul><ul><li>Imagine they had taken more time... </li></ul><ul><li>What would the manifestos for the key characters be like? </li></ul>
  5. 5. Your task <ul><li>Write the introduction to your character’s manifesto and the 5 key statements that would summarise your character’s priorities. </li></ul><ul><li>One person in your group will be the chair person and will feed back to the rest of the class </li></ul>

Think about... <ul><li>What would they do first if they were leader? </li></ul><ul><li>What are their plans for getting off the Island? </li></ul><ul><li>What would daily life be like with them as leaders? What would you gain from voting for them? </li></ul><ul><li>Would your character tell the truth? What might they say about the other characters? </li></ul><ul><li>What does Golding think about the character? What is his reason for including the character in the novel? </li></ul>
