  • 2. The Valley Region
      The valley region's climates have hot summers and cool winters. People who live in the valley mostly get their water from the mountains.
  • 3. The Mountain Region
      The mountain region is where the valley mostly get their water. People who live in the mountains work with wood or timber.
  • 4. The Desert Region
      The desert region is the hottest place in the state. The desert get's less than 10 in of rain each year.
  • 5. The Coast Region
      The coast region has the best weather. The coast region also has the most people because it has the most jobs.
  • 6. Father Serra
      Father Serra was sent by Spain to make the Native Americans Roman Cathlic. He kept the Native Americans in the San Diego mission.
  • 7. Gaspar de Portola
      Gaspar de Portola was a spanish soldier. Every mission he went to he locked up all the girls That was from the Native Americans at night.
  • 8. Vitus Bering
      Vitus Berring was the one who found the waterway that connected Alaska and Russia. He also named the waterway the Bering Strait.
  • 9. columbus
      Christopher Columbus was sent by Spain's king and queen to trade goods with the Indies. Instead he sailed the opposite direction, and came to America instead of Asia!
  • 10. Francis Drake
      Francis Drake was asked by the England queen to rob all the Spanish ships and goods. After this time Francis Drake became rich. When he sailed across California's harbor the gold in his ship weighed so much his ship broke!
  • 11. Sebastian Vizcaino
      Sebastian Vizcaino was asked by Spain to find a safe harbor on California's coast. He searched a long time, but he found no trace of a safe harbor. Instead he lied to the Spanish government that he found a safe harbor.
  • 12. Presidios
      The Presidios were made to defend the missions, keeping the Indians from escaping, and to keep other countries out. Another name is a fort.
  • 13. Pueblos
      The Pueblos are small farming towns. People who lived in the Pueblos were the family of the soilders who lived in the Presidio. The people who lived in the Pueblos made food for the soilders that lived in the Presidio.
  • 14. John Sutter
      John Sutter built Sutter's Fort in 1841. It was built where the Sacremento and Americain Rivers connect. He sold items to travelers.
  • 15. Ivan Kuskov
      Ivan Kuskov built Fort Ross. He led a group of Russians to catch sea otter. They tried to farm the land, but they failed. Around 1840 the Russians left.
  • 16. Jedediah Smith
      In 1826 person named Jedediah Smith guided a group of American trappers through the Mojave and Utah Desert.
  • 17. James Beckwourth
      In the 1850s James Beckwourth (a Native Amercian scout and guide) guided a settlers to California by going west.
  • 18. John Bidwell
      John Bidwell helped organize the first wagon train, and used it to get to California. He also found gold, and bought a huge ranch.
  • 19. John Fremont
      John Fremont made maps of California for the government and pioneers. He also guided U.S troops in California's Bear Flag Revolt.
  • 20. The 49ers and the Gold Rush.
      Their not called 49ers because there were 49 people, but because they came in 1849. The Gold Rush started when James Marshall found gold, and told one person, and that person told some other people.
  • 21. Sam Brannon
      Sam Brannon was the first millionaire He became a millionaire by buying all the tools during the Gold Rush, and sold the items with greater price.
  • 22. Levis Strauss
      Levi Strauss made pants for miners. He made them out of denim. The miners needed pants because their pants kept falling apart.
  • 23. Biddy Mason
      Biddy Mason was a slave. Her owner took her to California. She petitioned for her freedom, and luckily she won.
  • 24. Mary Tape
      Mary's children couldn't go to school because they were Chinese. So Mary sued the government, and she won. Her children went to an Asian school.
  • 25. The Mexican American War
      Mexico and America were 2 powerful countries. The borders between the 2 countries was the Rio Grande. Then America thought that they should have more land, so they declared war against Mexico. One of America's generals conquered some towns in the land that Mexico owned. After a while America won, and got their wish.
