  3. 3. CA. It began in 1846. It ended in 1848. America won the war and CA became the 31 st state. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Brenarda Ruiz <ul><li>Brenarda Ruiz arranged a peace meeting between the leaders of Mexico and the U.S. to stop the Mexican-American war since lots people of people were dying. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Helen Hunt Jackson <ul><li>Helen was famous for writing a book called Ramona. It was about the harsh treatment of CA Indians. She did not like how they were treated. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Biddy Mason <ul><li>Biddy Mason was born into slavery on a plantation. Biddy moved to CA with her owner. Since there was no slavery in CA, Biddy petitioned for her freedom. When she was finally free, she became a nurse. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Mary Tape <ul><li>Mary tape is a Chinese who couldn't go to school. She went to court to fight for the right for her kids to go to school. They finally opened up a school just for Chinese. </li></ul>Mary and her family

  26. 26. Sir. Francis Drake <ul><li>Sir Francis Drake was born in February of 1540. He was the oldest of twelve sons. He was famous for sailing around the world and returned to England. </li></ul>
