Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities James M. McPherson NJCH honors James M. McPherson , professor emeritus of history at Princeton University and renowned expert on the Civil War, for his extraordinary efforts to inform Americans about the history of the Civil War era.
McPherson has written and edited more than 25 books of history, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era . His most recent book is the biography Abraham Lincoln.
