    Kangaroo rat - Presentation Transcript

    1. The Amazing Kangaroo Rat By: Joanna and Shawn
    2.  Appearance 
      • Kangaroo rats are very small.
      • Their length is 30 cm including their tail.
      • They are the size of a guinea pig.
      • They are cute and fuzzy just like other cute small animals.
      • Kangaroo rats have a very long tail just like a horse’s tail.
    3. Adaptations
      • The climate in the desert is hot outside so they burrow in the ground where the air is most humid and moist.
      • Kangaroo rats come out between 9pm to 3am.
    4.  Food 
      • Grasses are an important meal in a kangaroo rat’s diet.
      • Dry seeds are an another example of a food kangaroo rats eat.
    5. Habitat
      • They live in scrub or brush covered slopes, often with creosote bush or acacias on hard or gravelly soil.
      • It lives in North America and Canada.
      • They live in burrows, and platforms.
    6.  Defenses 
      • They use their powerful hind legs to cover the ground in series of 2m long hops.
      • Kangaroo rats have big back feet to help them hop away fast.
    7.  Is It Extinct? 
      • It is not extinct but it is endangered.
      • People are destroying deserts and hunting
      • Kangaroo rats. 
      • There are many kinds of Kangaroo rats. Most of them are endangered or even sadly extinct. 
    8. Fun Facts
      • Kangaroo rats are not kangaroos or rats, they are rodents.
      • Kangaroo rats are excellent jumpers just like kangaroos.
      • Kangaroo rats are very skiddish.
