2. 2. Integrating Technology In The Classroom: MENU

“ Teachers & Technology: English with and Edge”

“ Toward a new model of high-tech school rooms”

“ Mobile Digital Storytelling”

 After reading the following content carefully one will learn more about technology in the classroom and how and why it can be useful. The above articles will be summarized in the following slides .

 3. 3. “ Teachers & Technology: English with an Edge” * Main Ideas

Author, Andie Brown, wrote the article to explain to teachers how and why technology can be helpful in the classroom.

Having students use technology can be crucial to their academic success.

Brown made her students create group videos that represented different ways of showing satire.

The Students found this project fun and interesting because it gave them a chance to critique each other using “RIDDYS”.

“ RIDDYS”= “Ridiculing Ignorance & Debunking Degenerate Yankee Schlock”(Brown).

 4. 4. Summary

In the article “Teachers & Technology:English with and Edge”, Andie Brown writes about the effects using technology has made in her classroom. Using technology in the classroom can give students options to be more creative and have more fun completing assignments that would otherwise be boring and hold little educational value. Having her students complete a video assignment on satire gives them a chance to be creative. It also helps students become more interactive with one another.

! A-Ha Moment:

* Teachers can find many technology grants that available to them to afford new technology for their classroom. Places such as Best Buy.

 5. 5. Personal Reflection

This article helped me realize that giving students projects as a group can be helpful and fun for students

Students learn more when they are given the freedom to be creative with how they present the material

Technology is available for teachers to use in the classroom even if it is not provided directly by the school

 6. 6. “ Toward a new model of high-tech schoolrooms” * Main Ideas

Author, Royal Van Horn, wrote the article to explain to educators the importance of updated technology in schools

Not all schools have computer labs, some only have small classroom computers, which are usually not used to their full potential

“ A-Ha Moment”- “kids don’t learn from schools. Kids learn from teachers in classrooms”(Horn).

Successful computer labs require a full time computer resource teacher

 7. 7. Summary

Horn wrote the article to explain to educators how technology can be an issue for teachers. Technology is expensive for schools. It requires constant attention and updates, and money. Using HCA, “high computer success model”, every student in each grade is issued their own laptop. Results have shown how the students became more successful academically and socially.

 8. 8. Personal Reflection

Although technology is expensive for schools to obtain it is very useful for students and teachers.

From my experience,in my educational career, technology available to me through IUPUI has been used to help me academically. It has helped me learn through online classes, and helps me interact with my professors and peers. Technology available to me has also helped me become a more informed and better prepared student.

 9. 9. “ Mobile Digital Storytelling”

Author, Wesley A. Freyer, wrote this article to inform educators of how technology is useful in the classroom

Technology can be helpful but it can also be destructive in a classroom

For example, use of cell phones

Mobile Digital Storytelling is used by students to help lean things more interactively and visually

 10. 10. Summary

Mobile Digital Storytelling can be useful for students and teachers. It gives the teachers and opportunity to use updated technology to help educate their students. The visual aid in mobile digital storytelling helps students understand and learn more easily.

 11. 11. Personal Reflection:

By using mobile digital storytelling teachers are able to incorporate technology in their classrooms.

This technology helps students learn visually and socially.

This is important because it helps student learn thing and store their know knowledge long term.

 12. 12. Conclusion

Technology is very useful in the classroom and outside of the classroom.

It can help students learn more efficiently.

Technology gives students access to a mass amount of information and tools to help them become academically successful.
