Cardiovascular diseases - Presentation Transcript

    • Heart attacks is when the blood flow to a part of the heart is strongly reduced or cut off, causing death of heart muscle cells.
    • A heart attack occurs when blood flow to a section of heart muscle becomes blocked. If the flow of blood isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle becomes damaged from lack of oxygen and begins to die.
    • The most common causes of heart attack are:
    • Family History
    • High fat diet
    • Sedentary life style.
    • A life style that is over stressful.
  1. The first stage in treating a heart attack usually involves steps simply to keep the patient alive. Oxygen is administered with a face mask and pain relief is given. This helps to relieve the pain and relax the patient. A low dose aspirin, if not already given, is used to thin the blood. Other drugs such as beta-blockers or glycerol trinitrate may also be given to increase blood supply to the heart by widening blood vessels.   To Prevent heart attack you have to have a healthy diet, do regular exercise, eliminate smoking and control your cholesterol level.
  2. Stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain functions due to a disturbance in the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. Stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage, complications and death if not promptly diagnosed and treated. It is the third leading cause of death in the United States. The most common cause of stroke are: *high blood pressure (hypertension), *high cholesterol, * diabetes, and * smoking.
  3. The ways to treat a stoke are surgery, medications, hospital care and rehabilitation are all accepted stroke treatments. Cerebral angioplasty is a technique in which balloons, stents and coils are used to treat some types of problems with the brain's blood vessels. Its widespread use depends on its safety and effectiveness. To Prevent a stoke you have to have a good blood pressure, eliminate smoking, control your cholesterol level and have a healthy diet.
  4. Angina is chest discomfort that occurs when there is a decreased blood oxygen supply to an area of the heart muscle. In most cases, the lack of blood supply is due to a narrowing of the coronary arteries as a result of arteriosclerosis. This pain often radiates to the neck, jaw, arms, back, or even the teeth. Patients may also suffer: * indigestion, * heartburn * weakness, * sweating, * nausea, * cramping, and * shortness of breath.
  5. The most common cause of an angina are: * Emotional stress * Exposure to very hot or cold temperatures * Heavy meals * Smoking The steps in angina treatment is to eliminate risk factors that are likely to hasten the progression of heart disease. This means that people with angina should stop smoking, lose excess weight, eat a "heart-healthy" diet, and exercise regularly, if possible. You can prevent or lower your risk for angina by making lifestyle changes such as following a healthy eating plan, quit smoking, being physically active and others.
