  2. 2. Why I chose this topic <ul><li>I knew that Aids were a big problem in Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>I wanted to educate other people with the facts that I took </li></ul>
  3. 3. Essential question <ul><li>Why is AIDS such a big problem in Africa? </li></ul>
  4. 4. What I Already Know <ul><li>AIDS affects more than half of Africa </li></ul><ul><li>There are no medicines or vaccines to prevent from getting AIDS </li></ul>

Facts <ul><li>An estimated 22million people were infected with HIV at the end of 2007 </li></ul><ul><li>This past year 1.5 million people were killed by this disease </li></ul><ul><li>AIDS kills over 6,000 people a day in Africa </li></ul><ul><li>According to the U.N. AIDS is now the #1 overall cause of death in Africa </li></ul>

Facts <ul><li>AIDS was discovered in the early 1980s </li></ul><ul><li>Most researchers believe that humans acquired AIDS from chimpanzees </li></ul><ul><li>A large majority of AIDS is targeted on the south region of Africa and gets lower up north </li></ul><ul><li>It is transmitted in body fluids including blood and breast milk </li></ul><ul><li>It can be spread by blood contact and sexual intercourse </li></ul>
  7. 7. What Was Interesting To Me <ul><li>AIDS can kill 6,000 people a day </li></ul><ul><li>In Africa AIDS are mainly targeted in the south </li></ul>
  8. 8. Questions I Still Have <ul><li>Why are aids targeted in the south? </li></ul><ul><li>Why are we not doing as much as we can to help? </li></ul><ul><li>Will this eventually take over all of Africa? </li></ul>
