  • 2. Why I chose this topic
    • I knew that Aids were a big problem in Africa.
    • I wanted to educate other people with the facts that I took
  • 3. Essential question
    • Why is AIDS such a big problem in Africa?
  • 4. What I Already Know
    • AIDS affects more than half of Africa
    • There are no medicines or vaccines to prevent from getting AIDS
  • 5. Facts
    • An estimated 22million people were infected with HIV at the end of 2007
    • This past year 1.5 million people were killed by this disease
    • AIDS kills over 6,000 people a day in Africa
    • According to the U.N. AIDS is now the #1 overall cause of death in Africa
  • 6. Facts
    • AIDS was discovered in the early 1980s
    • Most researchers believe that humans acquired AIDS from chimpanzees
    • A large majority of AIDS is targeted on the south region of Africa and gets lower up north
    • It is transmitted in body fluids including blood and breast milk
    • It can be spread by blood contact and sexual intercourse
  • 7. What Was Interesting To Me
    • AIDS can kill 6,000 people a day
    • In Africa AIDS are mainly targeted in the south
  • 8. Questions I Still Have
    • Why are aids targeted in the south?
    • Why are we not doing as much as we can to help?
    • Will this eventually take over all of Africa?
