  • 1. “ ARISE – AWAKE AND STOP NOT UNTIL THE GOAL IS REACHED“ SWAMY VIVEKANANDA “ Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress and working together is success.” -Henry Ford
  • 2. What is Leadership?
    • Leadership is an interactive conversation that pulls people toward becoming comfortable with the language of personal responsibility and commitment.
    • The ability to affect human behavior so as to accomplish a mission to achieve the common goal of the Team.
  • 3. A LEADERSHIP STORY
    • A group of workers and their leaders are set a task of clearing a road through a dense jungle on a remote island to get to the coast where an estuary provides a perfect site for a port.
    • The leaders organise the labour into efficient units and monitor the distribution and use of capital assets – progress is excellent. The leaders continue to monitor and evaluate progress, making adjustments along the way to ensure the progress is maintained and efficiency increased wherever possible.
    • Then, one day amidst all the hustle and bustle and activity, one person climbs up a nearby tree. The person surveys the scene from the top of the tree.
  • 4. A LEADERSHIP STORY
    • And shouts down to the assembled group below…
    • “ Wrong Way!”
    • (Story adapted from Stephen Covey (2004) “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” Simon & Schuster).
    • “ Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things”
    • (Warren Bennis and Peter Drucker)
  • 5. Winning over people

    • Give clear instructions
    • Don’t put on airs
    • A promise is a promise
    • Turn down in the first place (rather than withdraw later)
    • Tolerate mistakes and learn from them.
    • Listen to complaints.
People first ignore you, then they laugh at you, later they fight you, then you win.

    • Positive believing
    • positive believing is more than positive thinking. Positive believing is an attitude of confidence that comes from preparation.
    • The power of persistense
    • persistence is the commitment and determination to finish what you start.when we are exhausted quitting looks good, but winners endure.
    • Pride of performance
    • excellence comes when the performer takes pride in doing his best. Pride of performance doesnot mean ego. It represents pleasure with humility. Pride comes from within and it gives the winning edge.
  • 9.
    • Delivering high performance is a journey rather than a destination
    • take up one idea, make that one idea your life, think of it, dream of it, live of it, let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea and just leave everything else alone.
The very idea of leadership is that you have a vision. You cannot blow an uncertain trumpet.
