  4. 4. What I already knew about Child Slavery? <ul><li>They work 24/7 everyday. </li></ul><ul><li>Children from ages 4 and up are sold into child slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>They get one meal a day. </li></ul><ul><li>Some children work while their sick. </li></ul>

Child Slavery ! <ul><li>Children are forced into slavery, beaten and killed sometimes. </li></ul><ul><li>For as little $15 us dollars, parents are selling their children into slavery, often mislead to believe that their children will live a better life and education. </li></ul><ul><li>The extreme poverty of several African countries is leading to the resurgence of slavery. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Boys in Child Slavery ! <ul><li>Boys work on cotton and cacao plantations. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 15,000 children work in the cacao industry on the Ivory Coast. </li></ul><ul><li>Many are imprisoned and beaten if they try to escape. </li></ul>

Why do their parents sell their children into slavery? <ul><li>Poverty could let a parent sell their child into slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>There is no excuse for a parent to sell their children into slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>They sell their own blood for 50,000 shillings, or about $30 US dollars. </li></ul>
  8. 8. How much go into Child Slavery? <ul><li>200,000 children a year are being sold in to Child Slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>Between 600,000 and 800,000 children are trafficked across international borders each year. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Girls in Child Slavery ! <ul><li>Girls weren't to leave the house alone, just if they were sick to the doctors. </li></ul><ul><li>Girls are used as domestic servants and prostitutes. </li></ul><ul><li>Some girls work in the cocoa farms and coffee plantations in the Ivory coast. </li></ul>
  10. 10. When did Child Slavery start? <ul><li>Slave trade in Africa was officially banned in the early 1880’s </li></ul>
  11. 11. Nigerian <ul><li>Thousands of Nigerian children and young people are trafficked each year. </li></ul><ul><li>In the eastern Nigerian city of Benin, girls and young women are sent to west Africa and Europe work as prostitutes. </li></ul>

Surprised/Interesting !! <ul><li>Some children are rented or sold </li></ul><ul><li>Girls are use as domestic prostitutes. </li></ul><ul><li>200,000 children are sold into Child Slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>Traded for money or food. </li></ul><ul><li>Some children have been traded to be used as religious sacrifice. </li></ul>
