Overview <ul><li>My name is Matthew Soong </li></ul><ul><li>I started school in 1985 in Hawaii </li></ul><ul><li>I graduated from high school in 1997 in Hawaii </li></ul><ul><li>I first went to college at Kapiolani Community College in 1997 </li></ul><ul><li>When I finish my degree, I hope to become an elementary school teacher </li></ul>
  3. 3. My definition of educational technology The ability to manipulate technology to further one’s education and communication skills.
  4. 4. Web sites on ed tech history <ul><li>Education technology </li></ul><ul><li>History of computers </li></ul><ul><li>History of technology in the US </li></ul>
  5. 5. Kindergarten technology We had one computer and one printer that was never used by students. I think the teacher used it once in a while.
  6. 6. High school technology An overhead projector and transparencies were used to give presentations by the teacher. Computer lab was a time to practice typing skills and sometimes play games.
  7. 7. College technology Elluminate-An online Web discussion forum used to teach college classes. Students were allowed to bring laptops to class to take notes on and perform online searches.
  8. 8. A vivid technology learning experience <ul><li>We used Elluminate in my special education class </li></ul><ul><li>The facilitator can hold discussions online </li></ul><ul><li>A virtual whiteboard was used </li></ul><ul><li>Videoconferencing was also available </li></ul>
  9. 9. A technology I want to use in my classroom <ul><li>Digital photography and a video editing center-I would have the students take photographs and videos of their work and manipulate it with video editing programs. </li></ul>
  10. 10. My vision of the classroom of the future <ul><li>Textbooks and notes all stored on portable multimedia touchscreens. Lectures and notes can all be recorded on the hard drive. </li></ul>
  11. 11. A challenge for teaching <ul><li>Not enough funding for proper equipment </li></ul><ul><li>Insufficient education technology training </li></ul><ul><li>Curriculum time to teach education technology is limited </li></ul>
