  • Active and visible executive sponsorship In the 2007 Best Practices in Change Management study, active and visible executive sponsorship ranked as the number one success factor for change management programs, with participants citing this factor four times more frequently than any other area. Participants cited the need for senior business leaders to be accessible, knowledgeable about the change, committed and involved.
  • Source: Will Morrison NOTE: Word processing and spreadsheets were available long before 1995, but the reason they are on the chart is to indicate that these were “individual” activities. NOTE: Reason for 3 w3 references (to show evolution of capability): w3 – Web site: when the Web was first introduced and served primarily as an information source w3 – profile: we began to ask employees to profile themselves so that they would receive information that they subscribe for through indicating their area of interest through profiling w3 – role-based: providing employees with consolidated, more comprehensive information based on their role in the company NOTE: Today’s Wikis and Blogs are an evolution of Forums Instant messaging: 1.5M messages/day Blogs: 28K registered bloggers; 4K active Wikis: 7,300 instances, 112K pages, 114K unique authors Forums (Web-based forums in 2006): 1,500 instances, 40K authors
  • Source: Brian Goodman BlogCentral is both a blogging platform and an aggregation dashboard. Blogs are personal online journals. Think of them as a personal homepage. They get syndicated (shared) so that content from one source can be automatically surfaced in a different context. Blogs: Empower people to contribute content. Aggregates content so people see what they are interested in. Lets people drive the change by simply providing the means. NOTE: When Blogs first surfaced, we had to make a business decision of whether to embrace it or tell employees not to use it. Since this latter was next to impossible, the decision was made to accept it as a viable form of on-the-job employee collaboration. However, IBM did develop a set of “guidelines” (a code of conduct, or sorts) for use by bloggers which, to our knowledge, have generally been accepted by the IBM community. Today, Blogs (and wikis) are an effective means of viral communications.
  • Many communities fit into multiple categories listed above About half will fit into geographical category, about third will fit into technical, about third will also fit into professional
  • Based on: 286, 586 average search visits per week, each IBMer saves 12 seconds per search visit today
  • David L. Walsh 07/26/06 060726 WALSH SWG OVERVIEW ThinkPlace evolved from an earlier “Ideas” program that was very manual…. Today, we’ve automated that program and it truly demonstrates that every IBMer can be an innovator…. In the first year of existence, ThinkPlace: Generated more than 7K individual ideas We have since adopted more than 100 ideas IBM has realized an estimated $20 MILLION in savings from these ideas At the same time, we have awarded $115,000 to employees for their ideas. Rewarding and recognizing our employees for their ideas play an important role in the success of this program – and promotes employee interest in spending time on innovation…. ========================== Ideas submitted, discussed openly, then refined by community Every IBMer may collaborate on any idea on the site New ideas may be submitted in response to existing postings IBMers determine best candidates for implementation When appropriate, ideas reviewed by senior management for funding and resources
  • IBM Lotus Sametime Advanced 8.0 software: a new offering, planned to include all of the capabilities of Lotus Sametime Standard 8.0 software, plus additional, ground-breaking capabilities that will make it easier to find information and share expertise, persistent group chat, share desktops instantaneously and automatically reuse geographic location information.
