Illuminated Manuscripts <ul><li>An illuminated manuscript is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented by the addition of decoration (in the letters, borders, or miniature illustrations). </li></ul><ul><li>Earliest surviving illuminated manuscripts are from the gothic period (400-600 ce) primarily in Ireland, Constantinople, and Italy. </li></ul><ul><li>The majority of surviving manuscripts are from the Middle Ages. </li></ul><ul><li>The majority of Illuminated Manuscripts are religious in nature (often created by Monks). </li></ul><ul><li>The Process is long and expensive so only the wealthy could afford them. </li></ul>http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Illuminated_manuscript
