  • 1. My student conference<br />BY: Vikeerti<br />
  • 2. My presentation will mainly be based on my learning at West Island School. I will firstly be talking about 5 subjects first, which I enjoy and have been improving on. After I talk about these 5 subjects, I will also talk about my C.A.S, which stands for Creativity, Action and Service, My goals and Targets and lots more. These are the 5 subjects, I will mainly be talking about <br />SCIENCE-reproduction and feeding relationships<br />ENGLISH- S/L – My reading and media movie poster.<br />HUMANITIES –geography assessments<br />ART-Imaginative design and sky-line painting<br />FOOD TECHNOLOGY-smoothie and sandwich design<br />
  • 3. .<br />Firstly, I would like to start with English.<br />ENGLISH<br />TEACHER: MS.WEBB<br />
  • 4. English is one of my favorite subjects. Even in Kennedy, I was not so fond of English because as you know I was not very confident ,but now I am improving a lot. When I first came to West Island, I was quite afraid to go in to my English lessons, because Ms.Webb always used to pick on me because she knew I wasn’t very brave. But then I started getting more used to raising my hand and speaking up, and eventually I got the hang of it. Since she knew I was improving, she actually gave me an award and, to make me more confident she also moved me to the front table so it would be easier for me to concentrate. PRESTO. I love English, because I am fond of the teacher and I enjoy the subject.<br />
  • 5. Speaking and listening – All about my Reading<br />
  • 6. In English, we have studied lots of topics .We have done autobiographies ,Tuck Everlasting ,poetry, story writing, speaking and listening(individual- Reading) and lots more. I am talking about the speaking and listening –all about my reading. We have done 9 assessments already because we have studied 9 topics so we have done an assessment for each. For my comment Ms.Webb wrote: ‘ Viki an excellent presentation. Your speaking skills have improved enormously. You spoke loudly, Clearly, fluently and used eye contact very well. Your presentation was well structured, well rehearsed,deatailed and interesting. Fabulous&apos;. Normally I get 2 or 3 targets, but this time I only got 1. My target was to improve my vocabulary by using a thesaurus. After this assessment I also got dynasty point and I was extremely proud of my self because Ms.Webb only gives dynasty points to work which are beautifully presented . In English I enjoyed the speaking and listening topic the most because I have become more confident in speaking in front of the class. But I found learning about Shakespeare more harder because the language was a bit challenging , only because it was about 600 years old. To improve in English, I need to use a dictionary to correct my spelling and a thesaurus to find more interesting words. For this piece of work, I have improved from the one I am going to show you now.<br />
  • 7. Media Movie poster<br />
  • 8. I selected this piece of work because the drawing is very detailed and attractive. For the comment, Ms.Webb wrote ‘Viki, beautiful poster and good essay. Your poster is carefully drawn and beautifully presented. Your written work is showing improvement.’ My targets were 1- to ensure that you include a conclusion in every essay,2- Ensure that every paragraph is at least 3 to 4 sentences long, 3-Check your spelling more carefully before handing in. That shows that I need to improve. But I have already improved from the work I just showed earlier. In the subject, I have mainly enjoyed this topic, because I have never read the book Tuck Everlasting and it was very interesting learning about something new. Also, we got in to groups of three, and did a miming scene from the movie we watched on Tuck Everlasting.<br />So far, I have finished speaking about ENGLISH. Now I am going to move on to……… ART<br />

  • 10. ART- Imaginative design<br />
  • 11. Art has also been one of my favorite subjects. We have done, This imaginative design to, get more familiar in using patterns and to completely understand the style of Hundervasser. Ms.Swadling was very pleased with our work, so she gave us all a dynasty point each. We don’t go to art exhibitions or do projects but we do individual projects, such as the sky line painting. In art, we have done printmaking, callography , Skyline painting, and now we have moved on to sketching self portraits. So far, I have enjoyed the skyline painting the most because, I have had experience from my primary school and I also learned a lot of new patterns. Actually, I have not found anything challenging in art so far because everything is so fun and easy to learn. So Doing this design, I have understood the proper style of hundervasser and how to use his beautiful patterns.<br />
  • 12. SKY LINE PAINTING<br />
  • 13. Now I am going to move on to my skyline painting. In art, this was our first piece of work we did in year 7. I am very proud of it because, I sketched it neatly and I kept editing it till it looked prefect. Instead of Ms.Swadling marking ,our work we did. I wrote: ‘Trough out this painting, experience, I have now learnt how to paint/draw beautiful patterns in the style of hundervasser’. In my primary school, we did not ever do printmaking, so when I came to WIS, it was new to me. To become an expert at art, I should keep practicing at home when I have free time.<br />Now I am going to move on to another topic, which is…………GOEGRAPHY.<br />

  • 16. This is my first Geography test I did in year 7. In humanities, we have done 2 history and 3 geography assessments, but we have not yet done any Religious study assessments, although we are studying RS at the moment. For this assessment, I got 37 out of 50. At the beginning of the year I was also not so confident in Humanities, but I am improving a lot. For our assessment’s, we usually do it on paper, but for the WIS burger-geography assessment, we had to do it on a Power Point. In humanities, so far I have enjoyed religious studies the most because firstly, it is the most easiest, and I found it quite interesting because I have never learned it before. I have always found learning history more challenging than the other subjects because you have to remember a lot facts, when religious studies is so much more fun and we get to do lot more activities and learn about God.<br />Now I am going to tell you about my other geography assessment<br />
  • 17. GEORAPHY , SETTLEMENT ASSESMENT(WIS BURGER)<br />
  • 18. This is my WIS burger –settlement –geography assement. For this assessment we went trough a lot of stages. Firstly we went on a felid trip, to decide which would be the best place to build WIS burger. We started of at the peak then walked down to Soho. Then we went to Des Voux road. After the trip, in our humanities lessons, our teacher wanted us to make a power point in groups of three explaining which would be the best site to build WIS burger. In my group were Tanya and Katie. We are also making a map on where we went on the trip in ICT but is much more harder then the power point. For this assessment, we got target 17 which meant to &quot;Back up analysis and conclusions with evidence(quote data and give named examples). And we also got a level 5 which was very good, because I am actually a level four. So after this assessment, I moved up a level(I think!). To improve in geography, I need to follow target 17.<br />Now I have finished with the topic GEOGRAPHY , so now I am going to move on to one of my favorite subjects…………SCIENCE. But first I am going to show you a few pics of the trip.<br />

  • 25. SCIENCE –PENGUIN MIND MAP <br />
  • 26. I think you all know that at the beginning of year 7, I was a very poor scientist, But now……..I am a very strong scientist. This is because, I have become more confident in science because I am trying to participate more in class discussions. Also whenever I have science test’s, Ms.Ross gives me excellent websites and my mum sits with me all the time and helps me revise. That’s why I have been Improving a lot. For this test ,environmental and feeding relationships, I got 7 out of 10. And for my next test…….I am going to sit a level 5 paper. For this task, we had to draw and write about the penguins environment. While doing this mind-map, I learned a lot about the penguin and its characteristics. <br />Now I am still going to speak about science but about another topic in science.<br />
  • 27. PREGNANCY BROCHURE<br />
  • 28. This brochure is on pregnancy we did in science on the topic reproduction 7B. For this test, I got 8 out of 10. I have not learned this topic before so I was very proud with my results. In science, we have done 10 topics and we are doing our 11th-12th now. Altogether we have studied, solids liquids and gases, energy, cells, simple chemical reactions, reproduction, forces, acids and alkalis, electrical circuits, environmental and feeding relation ships, simple chemical reaction’s and now we are working on variation and classification. To become an expert at science, I need to maybe go online and play a few games or quizzes on the topic I am learning.<br />Now finally, I am going to move on to my last topic, and also again, one of my favorite&apos;s……………….FOOD TECH.<br />

  • 37. SMOOTHIE<br />
  • 38. In food tech, we have made delicious and different kinds of food. We have made, fruit and nut salad, tomato soup, pizza, smoothie, cookie and a packed lunch set. I drew two designs and from one of those, I choose the strawberry and banana smoothie. For this design, I got an A and 1dynasty point. In food tech, so far I found making the packed lunch the hardest because again we had to make our own recipe, but include various things. I found making the smoothie the most easiest because we only had to include a few ingredients and mix them together. I enjoyed making the pizza, because firstly I have never made it before and it tasted amazing.<br />Now I am going on move on to my sandwich(packed lunch)design.<br />
  • 39. SANDWICH<br />
  • 40. This is my packed lunch(sandwich design). For this design, I got an A as well. I found this task more challenging than the others because we had to include a lot of food in our packed lunch. For this design too I had to draw two designs then choose one. For my bread, I choose pita bread and the filling’s were, tuna, tomato, lettuce, humus and olives. I really liked my sandwich. To improve in food tech I need to practice at home and create interesting and tasty recipes.<br />I have finished talking about all my subjects, but that does not mean I have finished my conference yet.<br />

Now I am going to tell you about C.A.S!!<br />As you can see already, I am really enjoying studying at West Island so now, instead of talking about subjects, I am going to talk about C.A.S as I mentioned earlier. C.A.S stands for Creativity, Action and Service. In West Island I am involved in 2 C.A.S activities. They are basketball and D.T craft club. You must be wondering how come I am not doing anything for service, but actually I am. I go to this spiritual class every Friday. It is called BALVIKAS. Every month we in our balvikas groups, we all go to an old age home and entertain the old people. So that is part of service. I am enjoying my C.A.S activities a lot and I will try to get more involved too.<br />
  • 42. I think you all know about reading week. We had reading week on THE 18TH OF MAY 2009. I DRESSED UP AS ALCIE IN WORNDERLAND AND ALL MY FRIENDS ALSO DRESSED UP AS FUNNY BUT AWSOME BOOK CHARACTERS TOO. SOME OF THE TEACHERS LOOKED STUNNING.I really enjoyed reading week because I have not dressed up like a book character before.So HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS of READING WEEK.<br />

  • 47. In one to one, Ms.Ross gave me a sheet for my goals. On this sheet, There are three sections for goals. The first one is about year seven, the second one is about the end of year seven, and the third one is about year eight. Here are some pictures of my goal sheet. I am reaching(following ) these goals. So I am very proud of myself.<br />

  • 54. I know I said, that I would not talk about subjects any more, but I have not told you which are my favorite subjects and which are not. I really enjoy ART, DRAMA, SCIENCE,SPANISH, TECH(D.T,FOOD TECH.ETC), P.E and ENGLISH. But the subjects I dislike, are ICT and HUMANITIES. But I don’t mind math, Chinese or music.<br />

  • 57. This is my WEST ISLAND SCHOOL LEARNER PROFILE.<br />
  • 58. For this conference, I have had a lot of help from two fantastic teachers other wise I would not have been able to complete this task. The two teachers who helped me are Ms.Ross and Ms.Reavans. Ms.Reavans is my learning for life teacher. Every learning for life session, she would make us complete an assessment and subject reflection, which we would have to put in our conferences. But what I have done is I have combined them together so it would be easier to understand . So I am very proud to have two such lovely and responsible teachers. And I have really enjoyed being a year 7 tanger. I am really sad that we have to go up to year 8, because I have had an excellent time here. I think year 7 TANG(7T2) is the best class(Tutor group) in the whole world. I hope to enjoy the rest of my years at West Island too.<br />TANG ROCKS<br />
