Why I Chose My Topic <ul><li>Always wondered why they have child slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s hard to think they can be are age or even younger. </li></ul><ul><li>I wanted to find out more about child slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>I thought it sounded like an interesting topic to write research on. </li></ul>
  4. 4. I Already knew………. <ul><li>That there own families gave them away. </li></ul><ul><li>That they can be forced to work all night and all day. </li></ul><ul><li>That most of the slaves have very little education of none at all. </li></ul>

Big And Small Numbers <ul><li>There are about 27 million people today working under various forms of slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 200,000 children work as slaves in west and central Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>At least 200,000 children are trafficked within west Africa annually. </li></ul><ul><li>They tend to sweeten the inducement with a small sum of cash which is usually less than $15 and rarely more than $30. </li></ul>
  6. 6. How They Get Child Slaves <ul><li>In return they promised an education. In reality, they are often beaten, fed on leftovers, forced to work long hours and forbidden to go to school. </li></ul><ul><li>Children are being born into slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>Some cases, they just wait outside their houses and kidnap them. </li></ul><ul><li>But most of the time they can easily persuade the parents into giving up there child. </li></ul>

Saved <ul><li>Children that are saved are placed at a new government run shelter on the out skirts of Ghana’s capital, Accra. </li></ul><ul><li>The shelter in Accra serves as a halfway house for up to 50 children, aged 5 to 17, where they are rehabilitated and then returned to their biological parents. </li></ul><ul><li>The rehabilitation last several months and includes medical treatment, counseling, formal schooling and life skills training, such as personal hygiene . </li></ul>
