Conclusions
Brief for this Lecture
University of Missouri-Rolla to teach a Project Management Course with an International flavor to a group of General Motors students
Request from Dr. Benjamin L. Dow, Jr., Assistant Chair for Extended Studies
Basic concepts of Project Management, with cultural differences, management nuances, and contract issues highlighted
Helpful to have a Case Study to illustrate above concepts
Distance education course over the Internet
Background Scenario
Faculty, Dr Parameshwar P Iyer (PPI), has over 20 years of experience in research, teaching, and consulting in PM
There has been a rather sluggish growth of PM profession in India: the total number of PM professionals estimated at about 25,000; with less than 5000 PMP Certified Project Managers (Exhibit I, next slide)
PPI has provided PM education to over 2500 engineers and managers from industry
Background Scenario

Background Scenario – Approach to this Lecture
Will first review the basics of PM
One Case Example Project, SYSNET, will be used to illustrate fundamental concepts
Will then present some India-specific nuances, cultural aspects, and contract issues relating to practice of PM
A larger Case Study, concerning a River Water Project, called Sarayu, will follow
Will make a case for the development of Knowledge – Based PM Systems Design and Analysis Techniques
