What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The

 1. 1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
2. 2. Adobe Photoshop
I used Adobe Photoshop to create the front cover of my music magazine.
This programme was also used to edit photographs that i used throughout my project. Cropping photos down to the size i wanted them to be, and also creating the masthead ‘Rock Core’ which is on my front cover but repeated on my double page spread.
3. 3. Clone Tool
I used the clone tool to edit photographs which was used within my music magazine.
To use the clone tool I had to click on the button, and press in order to copy the part of the image I wanted to cover the blemish with.
Using this tool makes my photographs look professional and like they would belong in a real music magazine.
4. 4. Crop Tool
I used the crop tool to crop out certain parts of images that I wanted to use.
To use the crop tool I had to click on the crop tool button and drag the shape over the part of the image that I wanted to crop. Then I had to right click the shape and click crop.
This left me with my cropped image, ready to save and use.
5. 5. Colours
To change the colouring of my texts, backgrounds and images I had to find the correct colour I wanted by using this colour tool on Adobe Photoshop.
On this I can change the amounts of red, green and blue which is in the colour, this allowed me to create a more unique colour and also lets me alter the shade of this particular colour.
6. 6. Layers
When I created my front cover of my magazine I had to learn to create different types of layers; text and image layers.
For writing to go in front of an image or background I had to drag the layer which contained to font so that it was higher in the list of layers than the layer which had the image or background in.
7. 7. Quark Express
I used this programme to create my contents page and my double page spread.
It was much easier to create this pages using this programme because I was able to drag lines to create columns for my contents page which is used in every production of a contents page.
8. 8. Fonts
Quark Express allowed me to alter my fonts..

for example I could change the spaces in between each individual letter.
 9. 9. I could add a special effect to my font, such as a shadow, strike through or even making it bold.
 10. 10. I could also alter where the font was positioned within the text box and also change the size and colour of the text.

DSLR camera
To take the images I required for my magazine I used a digital single lens reflex camera.
I had to try out what kind of effect I wanted my photo’s to have. I also used different exposure to colours such as black and white, bright colours and just regular. I also tested what the photographs would look like with and without the flash.
11. 11. To the right is an image of a camera which is similar to the one that I used.
I could alter what setting the photo was on; portrait, auto, macro...ect.

For my images I varied from using the auto and portrait setting.
 12. 12. I had to plan where I was going to take my photographs because I needed to use somewhere which had quite a clear background with not that many things behind it, I also had to make sure that the backgrounds kept to the dark colour theme which is throughout my magazine so that the images didn’t look out of place.

This technology has helped me achieve my task because I was able to get my photographs up to the professional standard so that all the blemishes and imperfections on my model were gotten rid of, this is commonly used in all magazines. The professional camera also allowed me to get better quality photo’s than I would have if I had used a regular digital camera or mobile phone.
I was able to construct and change around my images and alter my text if I thought it didn’t look right or was out of place. I was also able to test out different colours, fonts and images to see what I thought worked best, whereas if I was doing this on paper I would have to keep restarting in order to change my idea.
13. 13. Having this new technology means that amateurs can make magazines much more easily and they can make them in their own home which is much more convenient for people as they won’t have to have a magazine publishing company in order to produce professional looking magazines.
I think in the future the magazine industry will see a rise in small independent magazine publishers producing magazines because of these new technologies which have become available to all kinds of people.
14. 14. Blogging
To record what I have learnt I used the website www.blogger.com , this allowed me to easily add ideas and alter my research and planning at home and at college much more easily.
I think that it is a good way to record evaluations and planning because it is a more media based website and is a new technology to the world which is becoming ever increasingly popular.
