The initiative <ul><li>SAFER INTERNET FORUM 2009 (21-23 October 2009) on promotion of education on Internet Safety in schools </li></ul><ul><li>Expected outcome : </li></ul><ul><li>Debate in the Forum </li></ul><ul><li>Report to be published after the Forum </li></ul><ul><li>If possible, an initiative at Council level after the Forum </li></ul>

How to support the initiative: <ul><li>Focus Group to support work and advice </li></ul><ul><li>Questionnaire to Member States to collect information on national curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>National debates through awareness nodes (INSAFE network covering 24 Member States + Iceland and Norway) </li></ul>

FOCUS GROUP <ul><li>MEMBERS : </li></ul><ul><li>EC services (DG Infso, DG EAC) </li></ul><ul><li>Safer Internet awareness centres (AT, DE, IT, PT) </li></ul><ul><li>EUN (INSAFE co-ordinator) </li></ul><ul><li>TeachToday (Microsoft and Vodafone), </li></ul><ul><li>eTwinning pedagogical manager </li></ul><ul><li>First meeting on 25 March 2009 </li></ul>

The QUESTIONNAIRE <ul><li>Objective: to collect information about the inclusion of internet safety in the national curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Dissemination of the questionnaire through Eurydice network in February-March 2009. </li></ul><ul><li>The results of the questionnaire will feed the report to be published by the Commission </li></ul>

National events <ul><li>Objective: collect information on the implementation of school curricula and identify best practices </li></ul><ul><li>How: Awareness nodes should organise a meeting with Ministry of Education, teachers’ organisations, industry representatives, Youth Panel. </li></ul><ul><li>When: May-June 2009 </li></ul>
