pretty good ... but not wholey accurate about *every* mortgage. Some could afford to pay until problems arrose... some did have downpayments, and some *were* lead into predatory lending schemes .... 'oh just fill out this form ... its a little higher up front cost, but that will be rolled into the loan and we won’t have to worry about any of the smaller paperwork' (that is, the no doc type loan)

so sure.. lots of mortgages went belly up .. many due to predatory lending, many due to financially ill persons .... and in the end, the banks had a chance to work with **many** of these people, but because the presures are so great on them to wring money from every asset, rather than plan for the asset in 3 to 5 years... many of those persons loose their homes, and any possible chance of reclaiming the thousands they’d put into the house, all because the banks refused to work with them (lower the rate for X years, half payments for X years, etc)
