We need it for content purposes, creating news releases, and press releases. Its our constant guide to writing success. For More Info on the AP Stylebook. Go to: http://www.apstylebook.com/
#2 How Social Networking can benefit you:
You will gain friendships that others may not gain.
You can connect with people all across the world.
You will obtain knowledge and awareness of the different cultures.
Also, learning different languages from people that you connect with is a great social networking benefit!
Another benefit is interacting and possibly connecting with a future client or co-worker.
#3 How to Create a Media Kit & News Release: Media Kits are usually in a folder, has information about the company. Some includes a card with contact information. News Releases- also known as press releases, is written or recorded to communicate about anything that is news related for the media. For more information on how to create a news release and media kit, Check this book out: Public Relations Writing & Media Techniques by Dennis L. Wilcox
#4 Relationships are important in Public Relations: Public relations are known to establish relationships with its audience and organizations in order to achieve their proper goal. Public relations play a key role in helping businesses in creating strong relationships with customers. Having a relationship will gain the audiences trust and support throughout a companies career. Jeff Houck, a food editor of Tampa Tribune shares the importance of having a relationship in PR. Follow him on Twitter: http://twitter.com/JeffHouck (to ask him more about the importance of relationships).
#5 How to interact with Journalist: Many people have found that trying to persuade a Journalist will get you no where, when trying to get your story published. The ways you interact with a journalist is by “asking” what there pet peeves are, don’t hassle them. Once you submit your story, Do not constantly email, fax and/or leave voicemails. Send your news release in an orderly fashion (on time) Let the journalist be the “JOURNALIST”.
#6 The More you Write, The More you’ll know Being in public relations, one has to know when to write and how to write about a person or organization. In order to know more about public relations, you have to practice writing it constantly and getting the feel of the world’s response to your writing. In PR Writing, you learn the knowledge of writing and how people can easily be effected by it. Great quote by E. L. Doctorow, “Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.”
#7 How to Gain An Audience in PR: Gaining a audience is a great factor to have when working in this field. Ways to establish an audience is by being apart of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, WordPress. Other ways is by being apart of Public Relations organizations, or attending conventions and etc… By attending and being apart of those things it will help make your work in PR a lot easier.
#8 Make first impressions your last impressions: In this profession, how we come across our future clients; whether its an interview or just a meet and greet moment, can change our lives forever. First impressions can simply be our last, that’s why its important to make our first impression a lasting impression. Image is a big factor of everyone’s life, so having a positive, universal personality can get you far. Like Arthur Schopenhauer says, “It is only at the first encounter that a face makes its full impression on us.”
#9 How to find and Make News: In doing NewsU.org courses and reading Public Relations Writing & Media Techniques, I’ve learned that making news will only work if you are an effective publicist and writer. Three things an effective publicist need to know are: They must be thoroughly familiar with traditional journalistic news values. They must know where to find news and how to select the angle that will be most interesting to journalists and the public. They must be problem solvers and come up with creative publicity tactics that effectively break through a forest of competing messages. By doing so you will be able to find and make news quickly and easily.
#10 How great is blogging: Blogging, just about everyone is apart of it! It’s another way for writers, photographers, businesses to express there opinions and attract audiences from all over the world. Like many trends, blogging has become a fast growing socially opinionated network where everyone wants to be heard. Blogging can help give you great writing skills and based upon how you write, people will begin subscribing and commenting to your blogs. Try it you’ll like it
