    Da Gama’s voage to India 1497- 1498
    led a fleet of four ships : the Barrio, the Saint Gabriel, the Saint Raphael, and a supply ship.
    navigational equipment included compasses, an astrolabe and astronomical charts.
    had a crew of about 170 men
    Da Gama sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, on July 8, 1497
    Voyage to India (July 8th 1497),
