Cheuk, Sherina and Serena ICT Presentation - Presentation Transcript

    1. By Serena, Cheuk and Sherina Judging websites   A Short and easy step by step presentation
      • On this presentation we will show you how to know which website is suitable  to use for your homework
      •
      •   To show teachers that we can be trusted to use the internet, so that we won't have to use books for research!!!!
      •
      •
      •
                    Introduction
    2. Some examples of good and   questionable
      •          ???
      • -  An opinionated site like blogs.  For example :
      • yahoo answers
      •
      • - Wikipedia, where people can just edit the pages whenever they want to
      •
      •
      •
Good - An authorized author or company name somewhere on the page   - Correct Facts For Example: IF it said a robot being built in the 1600 it is obviously wrong
    3. Websites - What do they tell you and is it true?
      • Here are seven ways to check:
        •   Is the information relevant to what you are searching for?
        •   Is the information authorised ?
        • Does the site show when it was made?
        • Is the information told in a person's point of view?
        • Is the information clear or very confusing?
        • Is the information suitable for  your age?
        • Is the information biased in some way?
      •   Remember that opinionated websites (blogs, etc) may not be as useful because they are basically opinions not facts
      •
    4. The Producer of the work -Everybody can write there own web page but that doesn't necessarily mean the facts that they've written are true - Check if there is a name of a company or person on the website - The name will either be on the header or footer, if you've searched everywhere and still can't find it, it doesn't mean the website is not good to use, but it gives it a bigger chance of it being bad
    5. For example read the text and see the picture which one is right and questionable
      • Built in a small  laboratory , Boilerplate was designed as a
      • prototype soldier for use in resolving the conflicts of nations.

      •
      •
in the 1890's boilerplate embarked on a series of journeys to demonstrate what it could do   Do you think this is true or questionable? How can you know by all the small clues? What have you learned?

    7. if you saw this when you went on the internet,
      •
      •   click to proceed
        • car
        • food
        • things
        • stuff
        • car
        • holidayy
      •
    8. Conclusion
      • Even though every sight may seem like they know what they are talking about, the facts they are giving you may be false information
      •
      • Before you use a website check the site's reliability  by using the pointers we have shown you on our presentation
      •
      • We hope that you enjoyed our presentation and learnt some new things from it.
