  1. 2. The Shanghai Race Club is now considering British luxury heritage brands as supporters of its online activities and events in 2010. These supporting brands will gain unparalled value from high awareness amongst buyers of luxury brands in Mainland China and association with an authentic and exciting story about high class living and associated 'gentlemen" culture. The Shanghai Race Club is the name of the original horse racing club started by the British in 1862. It's members were the elite of Shanghai including Sir Victor Sassoon, and Edward Moller (shipping tycoon), and the clubs - Ascot style -  racing day social events were the highlight of the year for the city's high society. As a luxury heritage brand the Club now focuses on sharing the decadent lifestyle stories and amazing architectual/business acheivements of the these original members to an audience of wealthy people across Mainland China. 2. 3. “ Shanghai is becoming a luxury hub in its own right. This is especially true in East China, where the city is chosen by 33.3% of tier-2 cities respondents. Because of the strong purchasing power of consumers in this region, we anticipate that Shanghai’s position as a hub for luxury consumption in Mainland China will only increase in the future” Ruder Finn Asia Feb 2009 But luxury groups agree that China, where consumers are very brand-conscious, will soon become the industry's No. 1 market and this year will be one of the few emerging markets to enjoy growth. Reuters Sep 2009 Hermes International SCA Chief Executive Officer Patrick Thomas said the French luxury-goods brand’s sales are “booming” in China and elsewhere in Asia, while the U.S. market is “slightly positive.” Oct. 2009 Bloomberg China has become the country with the strongest purchasing power of luxury cars in the world. Many luxury cars are eager to enter the Chinese market. The latest statistics show, the BMW Group's global sales fell 19%, but its sales in China grew 26%. In addition, while the financial crisis causes demand for luxury brands decline in Europe and the United States, the Chinese luxury market is still getting better.
