Why is poverty so widespread in Africa? <ul><li>Africa doesn’t produce enough GNP (Gross National Product) to support the continent. </li></ul><ul><li>African villages is not valued and incorporated in national accounts. </li></ul><ul><li>An annual growth rate of 3% it would take. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why is poverty so widespread in Africa? <ul><li>Media and Charity organization to depict human want and suffering. </li></ul><ul><li>Children lose their parents by wars and AIDS. They are lost and bereft in a cruel world. </li></ul><ul><li>Industrialized countries are roughly 51 times wealthier than African nations. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Poverty never takes a holiday <ul><li>Poverty works all day and night. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty never sleeps. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty is not nature. It is man-made. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty kills. </li></ul>

More information <ul><li>Large proportion of economic activity takes place outside the market. </li></ul><ul><li>National accounts don’t adequately recognize economic in the household and community that don’t involve the exchange of money. </li></ul><ul><li>One in five lives in a country affected by warfare. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Poverty <ul><li>Three fourth of poor people in Western and Middle Africa- 90 million- live in rural areas. </li></ul><ul><li>More than 25 million adults are affected. </li></ul><ul><li>More than 18 million people have died to date, 3 million were children. </li></ul>

Why I chose poverty <ul><li>The background information is very interesting. </li></ul><ul><li>I want to find out why African's are poor. </li></ul><ul><li>I have many questions I want to find out about poverty. </li></ul><ul><li>It is a very big subject and i want to challenge myself. </li></ul>
  8. 8. What I already know about poverty <ul><li>I know poverty is very widespread in Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>It affects many people. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty can be prevented but no one seems to care. </li></ul>

Interesting information <ul><li>About 20% of Africa’s children die before the age of five. </li></ul><ul><li>Africa is clearly a land of extreme poverty. </li></ul><ul><li>A child dies every 3 seconds from AIDS or extreme poverty often before their fifth birthday. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty never takes a holiday. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Questions I still have <ul><li>Are the African’s who are in poverty treated differently? </li></ul><ul><li>What’s their culture like? </li></ul><ul><li>Why aren’t people helping make changes to poverty? </li></ul>
